I just started on these so if you don't like it, let me know and I will work on drawing him in a different way.:) BB, I converted the background areas to a light yellow and made that color the transparent color so it wouldn't interfere with the non-transparent whites. Of course, you can't do that with an indexed color without adding another color to the index, so first I had to do that without getting it caught in the transparency system (which I forgot about the first time around and ended up with the same transparent problem. Thus, I ended up saving my work as a PSD and then going back to the PSD and turning it into a new indexed color GIF... an extra step but better than making the same mistake twice ;)).

JT that seems like an awful lot of work. I did the same thing by opening the image in animation shop and just painted the robe areas that had been made transparent by BB in white, then saved it with the rest of the transparency intact as downloaded from here.
Not dissing what you did but it seems so convoluted a method that you use. I don't think I could go through all that performance every time.

mine come from a variety of things....1: quicktime+clonewar trailer=the yoda one i have now( the one where he is catching the lightning)2:i use quicktime+the yoda trailer=the moving avatars of him i have. the others are of something that starts with a p and ends with a m. p*****m. i know everyone hates them, but i still have a thing for the games.....and i like the fact that no one knows what the hell they are! i just use jasc animation shop and go from there.....nothing too incredible because i can only go to about 30x30 for the avatars.

Not dissing what you did but it seems so convoluted a method that you use. I don't think I could go through all that performance every time. It only sounds like it, it's really not. I don't like working with Animation Shop or Paint Shop Pro when it comes to painting and such, I don't like the tools, I prefer Photoshop's tools... except for GIF89a Export, which is why I used Animation Shop. ;) I just tried it again with JUST Photoshop and it took only 20 seconds - open file, magic-wand the "background", change to RGB mode, apply the new color background with one keystroke, change back to Index color, Export to GIF89a, choose the new background as the transparency color, give the exported file a name, done - all in only 20 seconds! If I had to change tool settings on the magic wand or export, that might tack on another 5 seconds. ;)
EP, you're right, it's been too long since I changed my avatar. I mostly use my avatar to spot my posts in a thread since it sticks out like a sore thumb! :D Perhaps I should change it to the one here? http://www.sirstevesguide.com/forums/showthread.php?s=&postid=12463#post12463 ;)

yeah but it only took me five seconds to do in animation shop....
open file click fill tool, pick up white from the color pallette drop the color in, click save. done.
I can understand why you don't like the programme, it seems too messy at first with stuff all over the place but it's so simple to use really. I never bother with RGB values at all, just grab the color i need by sight. Totally spontaneous. If it's right it's right. I couldn't say what colors I've used without specifically going in and finding out by hovering over and clicking into an opened image. All i know is that it's so easy a cat could use it.
In fact i just dragged the neighbours cat in and this a self portrait it did in fifteen seconds flat....

Here's the Nikto - Chian. It's possibly not one of my better efforts but the picture I was using for reference was a bit grainy and dark. Also the digital mask that ILM did for this character didn't exactly have too much detail to begin with.

Thanks for the help on the Saruman 'tar, JT and Jargo.
I really dig the youngling 'tars also, EJ. I might make one for the Klatooinian Jedi (sort of EU but if it revolves around a Klatooinian it is acceptable:) ).
BTW, Jargo, can you post those ROTJ skiff 'tars that you mentioned in the Inner Sanctum? Just cram them all into one giant pic and I will work with them from there.
As far as the idea of Star Trek SP avatars. Can I request Locutus? Maybe even a Picard transforming into Locutus? That would be fab! No rush though, just a thought.:)
Thanks for your help Jargo ! Wonderful job of making the background transparent. :)
I'm going to keep messing around with my programs and try to figure everything out - this is my first attempt at erasing, so I'm a bit green . . .

been trying a few full body 'tars. here's my first attempt a Luke Jedi.
Star Trek 'tars..... It was just a musing for when I'm done with star wars. It'l be a while yet. I've got to see if I can draw them first. I saw some south park style farscape ones somewhere that were quite cool but i might do some of those too. we'll see we'll see...
BB, I can't post pics in the inner sanctum every time I try it never works. probably me being stupid but I'll do you a big multi-'tar and post it here. I should really suss out this image posting thing for the inner sanctum though, it's just a string of code but why is it so darned complicated!!!!!!

my latest 'tar is of a metal enamal painting done by one of my favorite artist, stefan knapp.
stefan knapp who passed away in 96, was born in poland, and in 1939 at the age of 18, was placed in a concetration camp in siberia. after escaping he was able to get to london where he joined the polish corps of the raf, and flew spitfire missions during the war.
after the war he settled down in england and began experimenting with metal art forms.
several of his murals are installed in public places around the world, most notably the murals which had been hanging on the exterior of heathrows terminal 4 (these metal murals are now hanging in the new richard rogers terminal).
shoppers of the the old alexanders discount stores located throughout the metro new york area, were treated to many of stefan's murals which adorned the exterior of the structures. the mural which had hung on the exterior of the alexanders at the paramus mall in nj, was an abstract of the worlds continents. this mural at over 120 feet in length X 45 feet in height, still holds the record for the largest metal mural ever displayed.

In fact i just dragged the neighbours cat in and this a self portrait it did in fifteen seconds flat.... I tried that in Animation Shop just to see how it'd go and it limited me to pick between only the file's 12 colors (which is what it would do in Photoshop if I hadn't converted it to RGB mode :D). I just don't like Paint Shop Pro's tools I think, and they feel the same about me because I never have great luck with them even when I am doing simple stuff. However, it may have something to do with me being very non-artistic, if I drew that cat freehand like you did, it'd be a big jumbly mess, that's why I do pixel-by-pixel or highlighting or whatever I can to not draw by hand. ;)
I did notice that when I did the Saruman avatar, when I was done with it in Animation Shop, it was 1.5k. When I did it in Paint Shop Pro, it was the same. Yet when I ran it through Photoshop's GIF export, it was only 839 bytes.
BB, glad to help.

I was watching VH-1 tonite and they had a show about KISS. In the begining of the show, they had some CGI that morphed each band member's face to the next. It was cool and I was inspired.
I took the photo of each of their "solo" albums and made an animated gif out of them using Paint Shop Pro 6 and Animation 2.

I took my avatar off an RFK memorial site.
Robert Fitzgerald Kennedy was born in 1925, the second son of Joe and Rose Kennedy, brother of John Fitzgerald Kennedy our nation's 35th president.
RFK was a complex man. He was both passionate and ruthless. Dedicated and cutthroat. Intent and interpersonal. His personal life was full of shady personal affairs. Some people try to link him with the death of Marilyn Monroe.
Yet, he pursued the underworld fevently and helped expose to the nation the true nature of the mob. He helped identify union corruption in the Teamster's organization. He helped to end the Communist witchhunt during the 1950's despite the fact he counseled for Senator Joe McCarthy.
He was one of the few politicians in our time who actually spoke from the heart. Unlike his brother, he was sincerely touched by the plight of poor people, of disenfranchised blacks throughout the nation. He committed himself to their cause and he forged an unbelievable connection among these people.
While I don't agree with some of the tactics he used as attorney general and I don't smile upon much of his personal life, he remains one of the most passionate and dedicated men to ever enter the arena of U.S. politics.
No matter what tangent I go off on, I always like to come back to this little South Park McCallum, from his scene stealing appearance in TPM. Jargo made this for my use, and it sure is spiffy !

I decided to ring the changes with this prototype Star park Borg drone. I've been meaning to get into some star trek sp 'tars and the Borg provide a challenge in a way. I'll end up abandoning this one as I actually reference costiumes and make improvememnts and wotnot. I think I'm going to limit my trek 'tars to just a few memorable characters. Probably the original crew, Picard, Janeway, Jordi, Chakotay, Worff. A few memorable aliens and adversaries. I'm not the biggest Trek fan going but I do have a soft spot for it. So as my little tribute I'll make a few trek'tars. :)

JBF--I have a funny story about Mike Tyson's Punch-Out for NES.
My uncle and his family bought that game, probably 12-13 years ago for the NES they had. Our family had NES too, but for some reason why, we never got the game.
Anyhow, every Christmas Eve our Uncle throw's a party for the immediate family. I remember all us kids would flock to the NES in the basement and play that game for hours. Well as the years came and gone, the systems evolved from a NES to a SNES, to a Computer (complete with assorted Game Show games (: ) to a PS, and finally a PS2.
But for some strange reason, the NES remained plugged in to the basement TV (their current game systems are upstairs). So every year we attend the party, my brother and I always manage to sneak downstairs and play the Punch-Out game (strangely enough, the game remains inside the system, I think we are the only ones to have used it in the last 5 years).
Sometimes we have to blow on the back of the game and inside the system to clear the dust, because it will affect the game (I remember we bought about 3-5 NES and a Game Cleaner and still couldn't get the darn things cleaned).
But anyway seeing your avatar brings back a lot of happy memories. Even to this day, we play that game, it still remains probably my favorite NES game.
It'll only be another month and ten days before we play it again. My bet it is it will still be hooked up, after all it has been for over a decade now. (Oh, and I still haven't gotten past Tyson yet, any hints?)

Avoid his uppercut punches. I know that doesn't help much, because I could never avoid them either. I would get taken out in the first round, and feel so bad because I sucked so badly. They should have made Doc fight instead. Mac just wasn't meant to fight, and Doc also made Mac wear a pink hooded sweatsuit and make Mac chase him down while he was riding a bike! How cruel is that? Doc should have been the one running, he was such a pig and he always offered the worst advice to Mac. "Join the Nintendo Fun Club today!" Doc, how the hell does that encourage Mac when his face looks like it was molded from Pudding and he has to lasts another round Tyson?
EDIT: On a side note, my new avatar special for tonight is my former high school government teacher who was a liar and ended up being "removed" before the school year ended for "unknown" reasons. Well, before I change it I should mention that the current avatar is Tamahome from Fushigi Yuugi. I changed the colour because I have this thing for blue people. In my defence, I would just like to say that I got sucked into this anime because I was practically living with three anime fanatic girls for two years during college. Thanks, I found a couple websites, including one that had mp3s of some Nintendo games. That Donkey Kong avatar is the best one yet. I also liked that Ice Hockey avatar.
scruf, don't make us go 90s. There were some bad things in the 90s. You listed a lot of them. Just think of all of those terrible bands that came out between 1987-1992. Tiffany, Debbie Gibson, New Kids on the block, Kix, Europe, Winger, Bullet Boys....Better yet, don't think about it. I feel so dirty now.

This one isn't finished yet but it's still good enough to use. Han in carbonite. After the Luke in Bacta tank went well i felt i should do a larger one for all the main characters too, sort of deluxe sptars'. I might add flashing lights to the control panels but if it looks poo I'll ditch them. Anyways, this is it...
JediTricks
12-07-2002, 05:13 PM
Looks pretty good Jargo, I totally dig it. My opinion on the lights is if you can't fill in all those empty spots, ditch 'em and just shave those side control panels down so they don't look like flippers holding the slab up. :D
Jargo
12-07-2002, 05:48 PM
Flippers - FLIPPERS! Actually I kind of agree, Then again, compared to the original this is like, lightyears away in superiority. Even if I do say so myself. Just to prove it, here's the evidence, the original SP Han in carbonite which was made by whoever started me off on the damn things. I still don't know who made the originals. There wasn't any copyright on the images so when I started I assumed they were okay to use. Now I've mostly redone every last one and soon, soon, they'll all be mine, MINE I TELL YOU MWAHAHAHA...!! ahem.... :crazed: :D :stupid:

Jargo
12-08-2002, 08:35 PM
Um.... next question? I dunno I asked myself that question this morning. I was thinking of adding in his feet but it's probably because of how I have them on the website, (still under construction) he just exeeds a certain size that fits in nicely. Same with the Luke in Bacta tank and the new Imperial probe droid. And yet, I managed to make the space slug fit into the space  that's just the way the cookie crumbles I guess.

So that explains why I couldn't place that face anywhere but it looked very familiar. Excellent work putting that together, especially when you have only the computer equivalent of Crayolas at your disposal. :D
BTW, I had to forego George for this funky Grimlock picture. I found it online while doing a search for a good side view of ol' metal-butt himself, and (though it wasn't what I needed by a long shot) it was way too funny to pass up. I've not seen the episode, but I understand it's from one of the Headmasters episodes that (I think) only aired in Japan.

Sorry I know its somewhat off topic but seeing Tecmo Bowl again just brought warm feelings to my heart.
It sounds like you invested just as much time into that game as I did. To bad my friends never figured out how to stop LT like you did. I don't think there was a player in that game as strong as him though, and it actually bordered on being cheap and unfair.
I know it was never on the NES but if you're a fan of football games I've got to mention one of my all-time favorite arcade football games. Yeah I know it had robots instead of humans as players but Cyberball was a blast with 4 players.
BTW thanks to Dar' Argol for my avatar. ;)
LT was too strong in that game, nobody is that game. Though it was a little less unfair than the Chicago "unstoppable" play.
I never played Cyberball, but I could swear they made a version of it for SNES. Not positive though.

Well, I'm a little late getting to this, but since I have no idea how to find a decent Stormtrooper avatar, I'm using the cartoon one provided here in the forum. I also don't have a website , which I assume you need to host a picture for your avatar photo. I chose the Stormtrooper because I wear Stormtrooper armor. CII was my second time wearing armor, and I had a blast. I'm currently working on a Tusken, but until I get that finished, I'll be staying with a Stormtrooper Avatar.

Makes them whatever you want, scruff.
I have no idea what my avatar is or where it came from. Let's see how long before someone guesses where it came from. I do know what it is though, I made it from a bigger picture.

For me they are another one of the greatest bands of all time.
But to clarify my previous question is what do YOU make them in comparison to Metallica. Me, I can't pick favs. I can't make up my mind about similar favs as being less or more than the other.
I am guessing it (your flashing avatar) is cartooinzed( a photoshop feauture) of cut outs of the eyes of the members of THE METALLICATS.

Mine is the artwork Pushead (I think it was him) did for Metallica's Eye of the Beholder single.
I like Megadeth, scruffziller. Hangar 18 and Holy Wars are my favorite songs.

Teeska Mon Eebon, shoot me those pics you want to use and I'll see about re-sizing them for you:D.
I updated my site again, Hmmm . . . .need to change my sig. I now have over 900 different avatars. I'm gonna post a sample on here. This, I guess you could say is an exclusive cause I don't have this one up yet, he he he. See if you can guess where it came from:D
Edit 1 minute later: DOH!!!! I forgot that the file name gives it away . . . . . oh well:rolleyes:

A ha, my experiment worked with the software I just acquired. It's James Hetfield sped up saying, "yeah, whateva." No, really it's him saying "disappear" but at 5 times the normal speed.
EDIT-It's still James, but now it's him saying something else from the Fuel video. I can't say how much I love making these with that new Adobe program.
Jaymz, could you maybe space out the loop in that avatar?
It looks rather . . . suggestive . . . ;)

Ok Caesar, I made a new one from the Queens of the Stone Age video. I kept my old one from Fuel to investigate further what you mean by it being suggestive.

Thanks Deoxy. It came from an extremely cool music video, too. It was hard to pick what series of images to export, crop, save as jpg's, and turn into an animated gif. So I just went with Josh singing from beginning of the video. Once again, great music video from Queens of the Stone Age.

In case you can't tell, I have an avatar of my black cat who's name is Sebastien.
Here's a quick synopsis of his storied life. He was a hired CIA hitman who successfully took out several Columbian drug underlings and operatives in the Medillin Cartel during the early 90's. (Who'd suspect a black cat?) Rumor has it, he was involved in the murder of cartel leader Pablo Escobar but that has been unconfirmed. He also taught physical education for a number of years before finally retiring last year. Not to mention he was neutered at a very young age.
Seriously, Sebastien has had one heckuva life for a cat. He is 15 years old, spunky and show's no signs of slowing down. He was picked from a litter of kittens that a friend of my sister's cat had. Usually black cats get passed over because of their color, but my sister saw something in him. I was only 8 when she first got him.
The first years of his life were spent alone with my sister in her apartment. After two years, my sister fell on hard times and moved back to our house. She brought Sibby with her. Now that poses a bit of a problem. My mother doesn't mind pets but would rather not put up with them because of the mess and stink they leave. My dad absolutely hates cats and has been known to throw them across the kitchen when bothered by them (obviously a very mean man).
So the cat and my sister stayed in the basement for the next couple of years. We even got a companion for Sib, a female Grey Tiger named Cleopatra. During this the time at our house, we used to let the cats out in our backyard (minus a fence) to let out a little steam. Both of them would disappear for hours but would know to come back before the end of the day. Sib became an expert hunter and once, in one day, he felled four birds (he brought them back home to our deck like a proud beagle who retrieves ducks for his master).
When the cats stunk up our basement (too much for my mom)
They were relegated to the garage at night. One day, someone accidentally left the garage door open, and Sib escaped. It was the dead of winter and we were hopeless. He ended up being missing for two weeks. Luckily, my older brothers decided to search all the houses and decks within a mile of our house and he was found underneath the deck of a neighbor not too far down.
When my sister got back on her feet, she took both cats with her to an apartment in Buffalo. There they joined up with a third cat name Cala, whom both could not stand. All three cats moved around the city, maybe four or five times in 10 years. He took it in stride. During his last move about two years ago, he was greeted by a very large guard dog that my sister got for her protection. This dog was a mutt by all standards with no manners. He'd chase the cats around the house, pass his fleas onto them and basically terrorize them. Sib was the only cat of three who stood up to the dog.
My brother and I realized that the cats would suffer if they stayed at the apartment. Despite the objections of my mom, we took in both Sib and Cleo (Cala died of a tumor).
Since then my mother has earned the respect of Sib. He can be very caring and will scratch at your door if he wants to sit and your lap and get some pettings. He is very independent at times, and will claw at you when he doesn't want to be bothered. He has brazenly slept on the bed of my parents--brazen considering my dad would have thrown him out the window had he noticed.
He was the one who warned my mom of a basement flood that we had on New Year's Eve. He also survived a hemotoma in his ear that could have easily lead to an infection and his death. He is a brave cat, who has a bit of an outdoor tomcat in him. He cleverly waits for us to turn out attention away from him when he is outside, and the minute our back is turn, he bolts to the neighbor's fence. He is always taking care of Cleo is fatter and much less active by giving her constant baths. Lately, he has been jumping in our empty bathtub (brave since Cats hate water) patiently waiting for us to turn on the faucet so he can get a drink. For nearly 2/3 of my life, he has been around and I will always cherish the times our family has had with him and the memories he has helped to create.
Forgive me for my often winded musings, but my avatar is in honor of him.

Good news everybody! This is reply #500.
Anyway, an ep of Futurama from season 3 - "The Cyber House Rules" - had a really funny bit in it where Leela, Professor Farnsworth, and the Planet Express crew discuss Leela getting phaser eye surgery and the Prof explains that this would be better than having slack-jawed morons staring at her eye all day. Then he proceeds to stare at the eye, mouth agape, making a confused, bewildered sound. So, after failing to find even ONE screencap of this on the web, I ended up making my own for my avatar.
