The pop up box on the main page must go! Pop-ups are annoying bits of advertising, that make me remember the advertiser's name for only one reason... to hate them. when I type in a web address I do not expect (or want) multiple windows to open. Please remove the pop-up... make the ad part of the page, but PLEASE stop cluttering my computer with all of this superfluous crap. I like your site, but I will find something else if I have to keep seing more and more extra windows open up just to come here. Flame me if you will, but you know that its annoying, and even more insidious is the fact that this one pops up, and quickly disappears to the background, so it can remind you later of its vile presence... its sad really, slowly you resort to porn-site tactics... what next, unsolicited email asking people to join?

Please refer to this thread. We do not use pop-ups, we use a single pop-UNDER:

It was good of you to ask, but I still find it annoying. I click on banners from time to time, but pop-(up, down, in, out, or under)s will never get anything but closed. I say have them provide a nice tasteful banner, they are less annoying, and they stay put no matter what... pop's get closed by most people before they even load. Its your site, so ultimately you will decide, but I am not sure how long I will deal with it... maybe I will just skip the homepage from now on, but I think its rotten that I have to resort to that.

From time to time is exactly right. The pop-unders get 75% better click thru rates than standard banner. Remember, these ads pay the bills so we can continue maintain the site.

I'd rather have the Pop-Under ad than paying(I close them down when I see them,I can't stand them personaly),but as you say it pays the bills,so is it 10 cents a click?

I WISH! We don't get paid by clicks though. They pay for a certain amount of time to have their ads on the site.

My complaint has been made... sorry to be a jerk... just my $.02. It is nice to get a reply from the man himself, I remember back in the day when ISE ran rampant and SirSteve rarely showed up in the forums. So thanks for the replies, and I will se if I can stand the pop unders for a while longer...

So by them paying for ads to be on this site that goes towards the bills you pay for the site, right?

The pop-up doesn't really bother me at all, it's not too big and it doesn't get in the way. The only complaint I could see would be from people with dial-up modems or really slooow connection speeds having to wait for it too upload.

Yes. Server bills (the BULK of our expenses), programmer, graphic artist, and travel expenses to cover shows.

Thanks! We are working on a few new systems that I am sure everyone will enjoy! This includes a completely re-designed Price Guide/Picture Archive.

The only time I hate pop-ups is when you close one and another opens up and this happens over and over and you can't get to the page. THAT is irritating. I don't mind if ONE opens up... besides, I've found some good STAR WARS vendors through some of the "offending" pop-ups... :p

THAT is irritating. The Federal Trade Commission is trying to make that a crime called "console-trapping". It's very annoying, but the best way to get rid of it is to stop closing windows and simply shut down Javascript instead, works every time.

Regarding the past when I was rarely posting in the old forums... that is because I never really liked any of the old systems. I finally found one I like and so I will be posting much more often.
