There are a ton of SSG'ers out there now and at least one of them must have a copy of The Phantom Edit.

If you are one of those, could you either post here or Private Message me. I would love to download a copy. Thanks!

Stilla. Dunno how fast a net connection you have, or the gumption to bother with this, but you "can" get the phantom edit off of the kazaa file sharing program (just do a search for "phantom edit" and it will show up).

I don't have it yet. When you posted this message, you reminded me to go look myself.

Cool. I'm downloading Phantom Edit right now.

A couple questions:

It says "The Phantom Edit Part 1 of 2 (DivX ;-)3.11a)

1. Will I have trouble playing a "DivX" file?
2. How can I "join" parts 1 and 2 in the computer, or do I have to output to VHS and make an edit there?

divx is a relatively new video compression (confusingly named the same as the ill fated dvd-renting idea that popped up about two years ago) that gives you almost dvd quality at a fraction of the file size, supposedly. you can download the player at http://www.divx.com and open the file in the new player after installation. i don't know about joining the two parts together, but i feel that it would require a video editing program that incorporates the divx compression, so i don't think that joining the parts is feasible.

You would need a video editor. But once a codec is installed, you can usually use whatever file format you want in a video editor. Provided the codec is installed, of course.

Joining splitting divx can be accomplished through a freeware program called VirtualDub. And there is an explanation on this page I'm linking to (with link for virtualdub on it).

To output to your television, you will of course need a video card capable of tv-output. Television out shouldn't be too hard to figure out if your computer can handle it. Just read the documentation with your video card to see how it does it. And you will also need an audio connection from your pc to recording device as well (duh).

Thanks for all the info! I downloaded the Divx player, and I can see the picture but I have no sound at all. No errors come up either.

I do have TV output capability (ATI All-In-Wonder Pro) so once I figure this all out, I'll probably take it to tape.
