Short Reviews on 13 AOTC Figures

Well, a friend of mine and myself were lucky enough to snag some of the April 23 AOTC figures before the cases were hauled off to the back the other night. This occurred in the Orlando, FL area where finding new SW items is like pulling the ears off a Gundark. Here goes my reviews, but be warned, I'm just happy to have new figures:

01. Anakin Skywalker - Outland Peasant Disguise: C+

The figure is nice with its sliding lightsaber that harkens back to the first days of the vintage line. The "Force Attraction" feature is cool but the magnets in the case and gun tend to override the hand magnet. You also have to get pretty close and at that distance you might as well just pick it up.

02. Padme' Amidala - Arena Escape: B

I like the fact that these figures come with packins. Hers will be nice with the playset. The "quick draw" action feature is okay. She'll definitely put the smack down on any figure standing close by.

03. Obi-Wan Kenobi - Coruscant Escape: A

I know the magent is big, but he can hang from the droid and his force action works better than the others. Plus I think the metal hilts are cool. All the figures should have them!

04. C-3P0: A

He looks goofy but I give them credit for effort. The plating on mine seems to fit better than the one pictured on the back. I may give the trunk to my Scanning Crew.:D

05. Kit Fisto: B+

This says porn all the way. He even looks like to baby Will Smith delivered in MIB. The hacking actions is decent but his force attraction is useless. He does have a hole in his belt but no peg on his saber hilt. I don't know why but I still like him.

06. Super Battle Droid: A+

Interchangable parts is all I have to say and there is a large sticker on the back to hide the changes they made to the figure. All battle droids should explode.

07. Boba Fett: ?

The only one of the 14 I didn't find.:cry:

08. Female Tusken Raider w/ Baby Raider: A

I like it b/c of a lack of female figures. As an added bonus, I'll have my own peewee football team if I buy a bunch.:crazed: She also came w/ a background piece.:confused:

09. Captain Typho: A

He looks cool with the helmet on and he's bigger than alot of the other figures. He also came with a Coruscant background.:confused:

10. Shaak Ti: B

She is a stature figure and her hands are very rubbery. She has no problem standing and comes with a background.:confused:

11. Battle Droid: B

This is the same mold as the Security Battle Droid except no red and no blue bolts. Typho is going to punk his ***$ out.:evil:

12. Plo Koon - Arena Battle: B

I don't know about this Force Blast energy thing. He also has a hole in his belt but no peg on the hilt. I need to compare him to TPM Plo Koon.

13. Jango Fett - Kamino Escape: A+

So he got the same rocket firing mechanism from the 300th Boba or is it the other way around?:sur: He has lots of accessories and good playability.

14. R2-D2: A

He would be A+ except for the fact he looks like the FX R2. I like the sounds but the bugs can go. He's been watching me the whole time I've been typing. He wants to be a real live boy. (Just saw A.I. last night, stupid movie!)

I'm sure none of this really helps but I got me some figures. Now April 23 will not be so expensive. Buwaa Haaa Haaa Haaa Haaa! Sorry it's late.

Very nice, Sid. You also bring up a good point with Typho. This is a 4" line, but how do these measure up to the basic figures in Episode 1 and POTJ? Does it look more like they made a 4" 'neutral' model, then tweaked that into the posed finished product? Or is there a noticeable variation in the relative sizes (not including the smaller astromechs and the larger s. battle droid).

I compared AOTC Kenobi w/ TPM Kenobi. TPM Kenobi is taller and a little bigger than AOTC Kenobi. Typho is the largest of the humaniod AOTC figures I have. Jango & Kenobi are comparable in size. Maybe Typho is big in the movie. I think the AOTC figures are in line with the slimming down of the figures which started during the POTJ series. Point of interest, Leia General is taller than AOTC Kenobi even taking into consideration that his knees are slightly bent.:crazed:

I gave him an A b/c of accessories and I believe he has more playability than TPM Kenobi. He seems a bit smaller than TPM Kenobi but he can hang from an assassin droid.:D

How is the grappling device? Does the helmet fit the head good or is it loose? Tell me, Tell me!!

Points of articulation: 8
Neck, waist, both shoulders, both legs(hip area), both elbows

We all know about his missle firing packback is the same as 300th Boba Fett.

As for his helmet, it has a snug fit. His neck shows b/c his collar doesn't go all the way up. That doesn't really bother me.

I like the grappling hook. It actually attaches to a wrist mount. The "cable" attached to it is very similar to that on the snowspeeder (vintage/POTF2). It can reach a figure several inches away. The "cable" slides through a tiny hole in the wrist mount. Mind you this thing is "launched" by hand. It is too small for spring action. When the hook is attached to the mount the excess "cable" has to go somewhere. I wrapped mine around the area between the backpack and his back. If you do it right, the "cable" will follow the back of Jango's right arm. Where you put the "cable" will really be up to the individual.

One last thing, both blasters fit in the holsters. I actually have mine holding both blasters. With the elbow swivle articulation, he chan hold his blasters in a variety of poses or press the fire control on his wrist launcher.

This is one great figure!!!:cool:

I can't wait for this figure. It really has me excited. I am SOOOOO glad that Hasbro didn't use a damn spring for the grapplling hook. Since when does EVERY toy have to have a spring firing something-or-other? GIJoes hardley ever had springs for their missles and that was the way I liked it darn it! :mad:

BTW- the Arena Battle Droid ins't the same mold as the Security Battle Droid. It looks similar, but the Security BD is actually much better IMO because it has bendable knees and its hands are posed MUCH better for holding its blaster.

I'm in the same boat as you pthfnder89 I can't wait for this figure. I was all jacked up for the preview Jango but after about a week of having him I got even more jacked knowing that the real cool Jango was coming out in April.:evil:

Thanks for the correction. After closer inspection, the Security BD is better and more sturdy.

Wait! You guys are wrong, the preview Jango is much cooler. I have them both.

Also, Sid, shame on you, that pose with him launching the rope is great, it reminds me of Boba Fett's pose when he wrapped up Luke!

About the helmet, it is a great fit, and you can barely see the neck, I hadn't noticed until Sid mentioned that. It is not bad looking, though.

Great reviews, I only disagree on the super battle droid. I think he stinks. The blow apart feature is a good idea, but it seriously compromises the figure's durability. And those skimpy legs! He can barely stand! I'm just waiting to come home one hot day and find him wilted over along with Amanaman's staff.

There has been some reports of the figure having some problems, but I doubt that is a widespread problem. I still have my Scorpion Alien figure, that has the same or similar exploding feature that I got in 1992 (or something like that) and he still works fine.

Jango is an awesome figure as long as you don't open them. He doesn't stand up very well. Same problem with Baby Boba. Anyway, I still think all of the figures rock. Got 20 now as Hasbro has allowed the new ones to be sold as of yesterday in Canada. Why? I don't know.
