I was overjoyed when I read on Sir Steve’s that the fan club was going to offer the 25th Anniversary Toy Fair Darth Vader. I was just waiting to read when it would be available. Today when I saw read a post that they were all sold out it saddened me greatly. I am a true fan and collector, and it irritates me that the “Fan Club” forces me to buy this great item on the secondary market. I know it says that more might be available, but I doubt that will happen. I read that you could buy 2 and a limit of 4 per week. So the 2 days they were available everyone who had the time to wait on the web site got to buy 4. Why did they even send them to the website, I mean people who are fans probably didn’t even get a chance to know about it until it was to late. I don’t want to sound like a baby, but I am just a bit disappointed in Hasbro and the Fan Club for making a piece that will be very hard for most people to get. If you agree with me post it J

Have no fear, I think they are just sold out of their original production run. According to Yakface back a few days ago, they are wanting to make as many as they can to fill demand. Here is the Info that was posted at Yakface.:

Over the past day we've gotten a lot of questions about the coming Toy Fair 2002 Darth Vader that is to be offered through the fan club. I've checked into this with various sources, and below are some answers to generalized questions I've received;

Will it be on different packaging?

No, it will most definitely be on the same card-back that was offered at Toy Fair.

Will it be a different sculpt?

No, it will be the exact same item that was offered at Toy Fair 2002. No deviation, you will not be able to tell one purchased from the fan club as opposed to the one given away at the 2002 Fair.

They will only be selling what is left over from Toy Fair.

This is scalper propoganda. No, they are producing at least 5000 of these babies, probably more. So don't listen to greedy auction listings claiming to have the only "genuine article". Patience!

Will they be offering another one at the Celebration II, and will it be offered through the fan club as well?

Probably and probably. That's the best answer that can be given at this time. Let's face it folks, it's the 25th Anniversary. They are BOUND to do something out in Indiana. Personally, I can't go to the Celebration II, but if I could see a figure come out of it, I'd love to see a chromed Clonetrooper or Jango. That's nothing I've heard, just the wishes of a demented fan.

Trust in the fan club, I doubt they would have allowed them to sell so cheap, and not really imposed strict limits on the figure if thats all they were going to make. Have patience, and I think you will be pleasently suprised. Atleast I hope so. :D

Thank you Jar Jar! I knew I jumped the gun a bit, but I thought that was the best way to get a response from someone in the know (i.e. you). I will have patience, and hope that everyone will have the chance to get this figure. Thanks also to Yakface.com for their research, sleuthing, and great web site. I hope the Celebration II figure is as cool as this one. :crazed:

Well SirSteve had it posted a few days before it was sold out. I bought two of them. I think it was just first come first serve, and you had to be quick. It is too bad that they only made so little, if this IS their only run.

I got 1. I am happy. I am starting to get the feeling they will be getting more though.

There is a recording when you call the fan club that they are not sure when (and if) they will get more... :(

I am still giving mine away so check the home page and enter!

Maybe they should just get rid of the limited edition stuff entirely since they're toys.

If they get rid of limited editions there wouldn't be the thrill of the hunt:) Hey you guys can't blame me because I only bought 1 Vader. I was going to buy 2 ,but then I thought for what? To sell on e-bay for what I paid for it or less I think Not. One is good for me. Does anyone have a feeling that the Fan Club Vader is going to be some sort of variation from the Toy fair version, even though we have been told that they are going to be the same, or at least they are 99% sure. I'm thinking of a slight card variation. What do you guys think??

For all the fuss about these, a hardcore collector might be tempted to track down an unproduced metallized Royal Guard (http://www.toysrgus.com/images-unpro/erg-metallized.html) or TIE Pilot (http://www.toysrgus.com/images-unpro/tiepilot-metallized.html)

The irony is this:

It wasn't a bad idea; the vac-metallized Emperor's Royal Guard that you see here really does look pretty sharp. But, for some reason, the idea never got off the ground. According to Kenner sources, Lucasfilm wasn't so hot on the idea of flashy gimmicks being applied to their property.

How things have changed.

This TIE Fighter Pilot was conceived mainly as a gimmick to sell multiple copies of the same toy to the same people.

Or have they?

Or have they? Very cool figure variations! I was wondering if you could post these photos in the collectors club forum V.E.C.C (Variation Errors Collectors Club) It would be great if you did.

Woah, weird. I really like the vac-metal Royal Guard though, very cool. Hopefully for the 40th Anniversary ROTJ figure we can get a ruby vac-metal Royal Guard like that. :D

That Metal Royal Guard is pretty sweet. He looks realistic enough, and is much better looking than the normal Royal Guard. The Metal TIE Fighter Pilot dosen't look that great, though. Being gold with normal arms and legs makes him too gimmicky in appearance.
As for the Metal Darth Vader, yeah its a bit gimmicky. Still, its quite sensible for the 25th. anniversary. Nothing goes better with the silver anniversary of Star Wars than a Silver Darth Vader.
