This is a thread I have wanted to start but didn't think about it until today. College hoops is now well underway and I would like to discuss it with fellow fans. Let's all list our teams and talk about how things are going.
Carolina is now 6-1 on the young season, coming off a big win against #1 ranked Ohio State Wednesday night and then today beating Kentucky. Our one loss came to the hands of Gonzaga in the early part of the NIT season-tipoff semifinal game.
One thing that has brought alot of optimism for this year's squad is the freshman class that coach Williams brought in. He grabbed several McDonald's All-Americans and the top ranked players at their respective positions.
Guard Wayne Ellington and forward Brandan Wright are the two biggest names that came to UNC this year. After seeing Wright average 13 pts a game and nearly 7 rebounds, he has the skill and flair that will probably take him to the NBA next year. After that we were also able to bring in Guard Ty Lawson and forwards Alex Stephenson and Deon Thompson. All of these players were highly touted at their positions among the high school ranks last year.
These freshmen will join the rest of our rotation that boasts All-American Tyler Hansbrough, who is a total beast down low in the paint. Our senior forward Rayshawn Terry and point guard Wes Miller add good weapons both from the perimeter and the 3 point arc.
So we are 6-1 and after our two wins this week we will probably move up higher than our #7 rank in the AP poll. We do not play again until next Saturday night.

Hey, there's no shame in that. Kentucky has always had a good basketball program. In fact Carolina and Kentucky are the two winningest programs in college basketball.
A couple of their players today...Joe Crawford and Bobby Perry were very effective. I believe Crawford ended up with 16 points and Perry with 12. Plus you had Randolph Morris with 23 points..that guy shot lights out going 11 of 12 from the field. Unreal.
Also you have to remember that all 3 of Kentucky's losses this season have happened at the hands of ranked opponents.

I like Nebraskas basketball team. Theyve got a new coach this year, as the last dude got the A.D. job at the school he used to play for. Which is good, because after a few years he still hadnt done squat with the program. Things are off to a good start, they beat their regional rival Creighton Bluejays a couple of weeks ago. As far as im concerned, they could lose every other game and i would still be content with them if they beat the Bluejays. High expectations, huh? But, theyll get better with time.

WOOOHOOO!!!! My other basketball team just beat the #1 team in the nation. Go Hokies!!!! I was actually hoping that they would have won by 20 or so, but they couldn't hold off UNCs attack there towards the end. They still pulled out the victory though, but I was really hoping to say that they kicked the crap outta UNC (which they did throughout the majority of the ball game). Twas a good game. Sorry JAH... :p

Nebrasketball was obliberated yesterday by Kansas, for the second time this season. Having said that, im not disappointed with the team. Considering what the coach (Doc Sadler) has to work with, im content with their season so far. Once he gets players that will work in his system they will get better, right now, hes just got to make do with what he inherited from Barry Collier.

Nebraska is the third best team in the state. Creighton is now the best basketball program and even UNO will out draw them in terms of players and fans. Dana Altman will out-recruit any coach at Nebraska and get them into school with tougher academic requirements. It was nice to see the Qwest Center on ESPN2 finally and have it filled with Blue and White of Creighton. I remember when I went there and in the band and it was full of [sic]Husker Red.

Nebraska has never been a big basketball school. Steve Pederson (A.D. at UNL) is quite ambitious and has his eyes set on turning the Huskers into the best basketball team in the state. If they can do it for their football, volleyball, and baseball teams, im pretty confident they can do it in basketball too. Winning teams bring out the bandwagoners, see Creighton basketball for example.

Yea, that UNC BC game was a good one.

I'm not sure WTF is up with VA Tech?!?!?! As long as they get their crap together for March Madness then I'll be fine. They have the potential to make a serious run in the tournament, they just have to play well more consistantly.

First off, I'm a Creighton Alumni and I was riding shot gun on the wagon when early on in Altman's tenure building up the Pep Band and things like the Birdcage. Second, why does Dana Altman always get the top players from the neighboring states and instate (not to mention top players out of Milwaukee and Chicago)? Third, which team is going to the NCAA tournament? And Creighton Football, undefeated since they beat the Bugeaters of UNL since 1941.

That elbow was 100% accidental. He simply went up to block the shot (albeit very hard) and the UNC guy pumped faked at about the same time and jumped into his elbow.

It's funny and sad at the same time how both sides are turning it. It's almost as if your blind allegiance to a team keeps you from seeing how it actually was.

My two main teams (since former lower division Youngstown State can't sneak in with its automatic conference bid due to the tiny fact that they can't ever seem to get the victory in the title game  ) Pitt and Ohio State are looking pretty good, although the Panthers are making it tougher on themselves with their fouls, walk-it-up-the-court-even-when-being-pressed, and over-reliance on the 3 ball. Could it be my dream matchup in the Finals? :tornloyalties: OSU should snag a #1 seed, while Pitt could take a #2 if they beat Georgetown in the final this weekend.

Bel-Cam Jos
03-18-2007, 10:33 AM
Is this a harbinger of success? OSU has to come back in the waning seconds just to force overtime, then beats a lower-ranked opponent. Pitt blows a big lead and has to come back in the waning seconds just to force overtime, then beats a lower-ranked opponent. Does that mean that my dream bracket with Pitt beating OSU for the title is gare-ronn-teed? I think so! :lipsrsealed: I still have a chance to have picked 13 of the Sweet 16 teams correctly, with my Elite 8 intact, too.

Speaking of coaches, anybody been following the Dana Altman story? He left Creighton for Arkansas, and 26 hours later had resigned from Arkansas to go back to Creighton. Odd, huh? Personally, and im not a Creighton fan so take that into account, i thought him leaving was a bad decision. He left a job where the two major expectations are to get 20 wins (in the Missouri Valley Conference) and get into the NCAA tournament (2-7 record) every year. Arkansas is a different beast.

The story Creight Alumni are getting is that it was his daughters and wife who didn't want him to go. He saw the money, they saw Fayetteville and said, Omaha better. Plus having had to share a plane and bus with the Altmans in '99, she definitely runs the family, while he affords them a certain lifestyle, she decides it all.

It is good news.

I think he stayed because in the G'Town game he was dominated by Roy Hibbert and that shows that although he is very talented he still has work to do. Also the way that the season ended for them in that game is probably not the way he wanted to end his career at Carolina.
