View Full Version : Editing Signature Woes

Sorry, JT, there's one in every bunch and I must be 'it' because I just don't get it.....

Computers aren't my strong point in life. Computing in my day meant counting on my fingers. If more memory was needed, I took off my shoes and socks!

When I registered, I did not put in a signature line as this old worthless laptop we're allowed to use here at work doesn't allow for international symbols. So, I waited until I came home to enter my sig line as my home unit allows me to put in the necessary foreign symbols that resides in my sig line (which, you may remember is: "Que la fuerza to acompane"....).

Anyway.......when I go into the CP User to edit my profile and click the 'edit signature' button, I get a box with the heading "vBulletin Message' and 'SSG Forums' in the box. Where do I go from here to try to get my sig line back in my profile?

Sorry for being the slow one around these here computers, but, hey! Truth hurts! I don't know if anyone else has this problem, but if they do, I thought I'd volunteer to look like the dummy that I am to get this resolved.

Thanks in advance for the assist!

TI7:)

This is quite strange, everything looks right, then you get to "I get a box with the heading "vBulletin Message' and 'SSG Forums' in the box." and that makes no sense. What you SHOULD be seeing is
SSG Forums » User Control Panel For TeeEye7 » Edit Profile » Signature Editor and the whole Signature-Editor table as well as the header links for the User Control Panel.

Give it another shot, if it gives you just that box you mentioned, post here and let us know what computer you're using (PC or MAC), what operating system (Windows 95, Win98, or WinME), and what web browser (Netscape, Internet Explorer, AOL, or other).

Good luck!

I found the bug and it has now been fixed. If you click Submit Modifications after editing your signature line, it will now save properly.

Meesa back!

Sorry, I've been otherwise envolved for the past several days. Please excuse the delay.

As SirSteve suggests, I typed in my sig line then hit the "Sumbmit Modifications" button and...............nothing.

I will try this on my home computer to see if that makes a difference. My time on SSG is normally done on my lunch break with an old clunker Toshiba laptop we're allowed to use here at work. Dunno if it's the problem or not.

To be continued.........

TI, you have to click the "Edit Signature" graphic to take you to the sig editing section, you can't just type in your stuff and hit "Submit Modifications".

LMK if that also fails.

Man! Work has been intense these days! I'm glad I've finally got a lull in the action......

Back to my woes: When I attempted to put in a sig line, I clicked on the "edit signature" graphic, the next screen that popped up was box titled "vBulletin Message" in a gray title box and "SSG Fourms" in the box below that. This was the problem I listed at the top of the thread. It's baaack.

There was no box to enter a sig line when the screen:
SSG Forums>>User Control Panel for TeeEye7>>Edit Profile
tonight when I logged onas there was last week when SirSteve thought he had resolved the problem.

I use a PC at home and at work, running Windows 95, and have AOL as my browser.

This is all so very wierd. Everything else with the new forums runs just fine.

TJ, SirSteve....you're my only hope!
;)
Thanks for your continued help!

No one else has reported any problems. Is anyone else using AOL having this problem?

I was thinking the exact same thing, AOL browser could be daffy.

I'm having the very same problem, and I don't use AOL...

Edit:

I found the right screen, though I did nothing different....

I don't mean GL or W....

I think it's fixed! :D

Thanks, SirSteve!

Just came home and tried to spiff up my signature. Can't seem to get the 'tilde' (the little squiggly line) over the 'n' in the word 'acompane'.

Typing 'Alt' and the numbers 164 normally rendered the correct Spanish letter using the old forums. Now when I do it, I'm kicked over to the page of the 'user cp' where one accesses the 'edit profile' button after hitting the 'user cp' button first.

I was able to use the "Alt + 173" to get the upside down exclamation point, but I can't access the 'tilde'. Oh, well. I've gotten a lot closer. At least I have a sig now.

Thanks for your diligence! :)

TeeEye, in Windows, there's an accessory built in called "character map" where you can find any character in a font, click it up to the copy section, and then copy it to your clipboard (ctrl-c) to be pasted wherever you please.

JT....

I haven't ignored your advice.

Ever since the 'photo upload' feature was installed, I haven't been able to access the 'edit signature' feature again.

Hmmmm......:(

The problem now, SirSteve, is that the box that allows one to change/edit the signature no longer pops up for me. When I click the 'edit signature' button, I get the the 'SSG Forums' box on the next screen as I've reported before.

BTW, I'm using my son's new lap top running Windows ME, if that makes any difference (and still on AOL).

Your first problem is Windows ME.
Your second problem is AOL.

Windows me is not as stable in some areas as Win 98 and in my opinion AOL is too idiot proof for me.

It has nothing to do with the Photo Upload feature. That I know for a fact. I think it is an AOL issue. Anyone else having this problem WITH or WITHOUT AOL?

Holy crap! I just got the same thing once. This is weird, I don't think this is browser-specific, I think it's an on-off thing, because using the exact same link, I'm now getting the signature editing window.

heres yet another sig question. When you change your sig why does it change on all your old posts as well?? Or am I making that up?

That's just the way it works...

JT's description is very accurate. This seems to be an on/off thing. More off than on for me. The editing signature box rarely comes up for me when I access the User CP.

Last night offered yet another wierd event. Even though I was logged on, when I tried to access the User CP, I had an error message telling me I had to be logged on to use the feature (even though I was). I also was unable to post replies to threads until I logged off and back on (and I was still unable to access the User CP after doing that).........

.....the saga continues.....

Hey, SirSteve.......!

I found my tilde (again)!

I don't know why, but I can type it in, now! I have a happy signature, now!

......now the circle is complete......

The update version fixed a few bugs and that was one of them
