When I click the button to do a Quick Reply, nothing happens, so I have to click the Reply with Quote button should I want to post. Also, none of the buttons (bold, smilies, etc.) around the post-box are working.

So, uh, fix it!

I have had a few problems- I'm running the current Firefox on WIN 98 SE

It seems if I let the page load fully without trying any "functions" at all it kind of helps, but it still seems pretty durn sticky, maybe even a bit :beard:

I had the problem for the first time today. I just refreshed the page and it worked.

I refreshed the page, and it still doesn't work. I'm using AOL, but I don't think that's the problem. Why was there a change in the system at all? The old one always worked fine.

Hmm......... odd....... I've searched through vbulletins site and no one has reported such an issue.... not sure what to say right now....

I'm having the same problems with the quick reply too. Seems to have stopped working today. Win98, IE 5.5

. Why was there a change in the system at all? The old one always worked fine. That's a really good question John. I have wondered this myself. I guess it's like MSN's updates, it improves one thing and messes up 10 other things.

I believe the change was for behind-the-scenes upgrades and fixes. Not everything is about you guys! ;)

When I came on here, I had the same problem with my Mozilla, then I refreshed and now it's working. I'm also seeing similar problems with posting new threads and other issues, and again, those then worked upon reload.

Works for me, and I'm happy to see spell check!

I thought the spell-check was getting das boot, I saw it for 1 minute on my page and now it's gone, not that I really would have used it anyway.

BTW, if you hadn't noticed gang, the entire transition page after you posted is gone, now it gives you the message on the same page and takes you directly to where you were going. It may seem like a minor thing, but keep in mind how many transition pages you see here a week.

Also, editing a post is faster and easier, there's an in-between editing page for simple changes.

I've noticed that every time I want to use the icons on the "Reply to Thread" screen I need to reload the screen first. Things like smilies, fonts, etc. aren't working for me and the manage attachment button doesn't show up until I reload.

Need more than this please... browser type/version? Works fine with Firefox 1.06 and IE 6.02.

this morning when the forums were down, it said there were new changes and upgrades coming so that's probably where they got the idea. :)

EVERYTHING is for our users! In a round-about-sorta-way. ;)

This was a major update but as JT said, most of it you don't visually see but will see in performance. There are a few new user-end features such as the spell check. There is always more than meets the eye...

Hey Steve, I had the same issue with my initial run of the forums, I couldn't post quick replies but one Refresh and now it worked on the first try. :)

Steve, I stopped getting the messages as of last night when you were working on them.

I did however go to my user cp and saw I was subscribed to 217 brand new threads. Alot of which are over a month ago that was last posted in. It might work itself out by the time I next check tonight, will let you know.

I'm using IE 5.0 on XP, and the only problem I'm noticing is that the system can seem to recall when I last read some threads, but not others. As in, if I click on the new posts icon for a thread, in one thread I'll go to the first unread post, but on another I'll end up seven pages back.

JediTricks

Oh right, I forgot about the spellcheck option only working in IE, that explains why I only saw it for a moment, I was only using IE for a moment.

Also, the new database-based thread and forum read marking system is showing me a LOT of old threads, many of which I know for sure that I've already read all the way through. This may be a first-time situation though, I will respond when I log back in.

As in, if I click on the new posts icon for a thread, in one thread I'll go to the first unread post, but on another I'll end up seven pages back.I just noticed, it's doing this to me too. I clicked on the "new posts" link to a thread I saw yesterday and it took me to the first post in the thread, I went back and reclicked that "new posts" link and only then did it take me to the new post. This is likely part of the thing I mentioned in my previous paragraph.

I clicked "Mark Forums Read" at the end of my posting session here, then realized my experiment won't be as effective. I'll run a test account on it as well.

Looks like the Quick Reply's working now. Unfortunately though, when you click on bold or italic, or anything like that, it enters both the opening and closing bracket, unlike last time when it'd do one at a time.

JediTricks

You know you can just highlight the text and THEN click the bold or italic buttons, right?

I do see what you're saying though, now when you click it and nothing's highlighted, it puts up both sides of the code, and moves your cursor in between them so you can start typing without having to move the end-code.

I'll run a test account on it as well. So, I checked what went down here, and indeed clicking "Mark Forums Read" made a difference. The test account didn't roll back any of the threads it hadn't seen, but the one it had read (this one) it recognized correctly and took the account right to the first REAL unread post. So the next time you visit a thread, it should act normally instead of taking you to August posts, but if you want to clear them all out and start fresh, just click Mark Forums Read.

Thus far I haven't had any problems with the updates. I'm running the newest version of Firefox if that matters any.

Actually the only "problem" I'm having is with the new posts but I'll just do what JT said.

Don't know if anyone else noticed this or not, but after I finish reading a thread, then click on "new post" the thread I read is no longer visible, unless I go find the section it was posted in. Not that I really need to see it when I am finished reading it. Is this what you meant by the "bulb" going out? Where is the "Mark Forums read" section?

Yes, but I don't see it when I am on the "New Posts" page, only when I go to SirStevesGuide.com Forums page. I usually log in, then go to Forums then click "New Posts", so I never see the bottom of the forums page.

No, this is unusual, after posting anything it should take you directly to the thread with your post in it now. Do you mean the "Post Reply" button or the "New Thread" button?

WHat he means is this.

I read the forums from the user CP first. Make my posts in the threads that I need to do so in. When I click new posts, the threads I responded to are not listed, just the unread ones.

I noticed that too, once you post in a thread it's not longer new since you already read it, so if you go to View New Posts again, it WON'T show that one. I love that. :)

I'm really diggin' the new updates too. The new post dealy took a day or two to get used to but if you just mark forums read after each visit it's the same as before.

And if you don't, they will stay marked unread until you do (or read them). It is MUCH more accurate than before.

Yes, what KH said. I like it better that way, as I read the posts, they are no longer taking up space when I hit "new posts", they used to be there, but not in "bold" type, indicating that you had already read that post.

Ah, ok, thanks for clearing that up. It's exactly what Caesar said, once you've replied to a thread, you've READ everything in it up till that point, so until something new gets posted in there, it won't show up because it *has* been read. If you're using "New Posts" you can also choose to see all new posts from the last 24 hours, which includes posts you have read already.

Another thing that I've found I really like with this system that I've used several times is the automatic avatar resizing. It's really convinient instead of me resizing pictures repeatedly to try and fit. I noticed that it doesn't do it with attachments. Is there anything that can do that as well?

JediTricks
01-03-2006, 05:46 PM
Is there anything that can do that as well?Er, I'm not sure what you're asking with that question, are you asking for something to resize attachment photos or are you asking if we can set it up so the system automatically resizes attachment photos? If you're looking for a program so you can resize photos yourself, let me point you to my previous post about irfanview, a free, light, effective, easy-to-use photo editor: 353902
