I just saw the movie tonight. I am a Terry Gilliam fan and could not wait for this. I heard early reviews that called it devoid of Gilliam style, and that it had no real heart. I can now say that I disagree. I am sick of people looking for Gilliam to repeat Brazil in visual style. This film has a very unique style, which is what Gilliam's good for. The story is great, especially for those that like the Fables comic series. It is filled with clever references to the Grimm fairy tells hidden throughout the film. Some are obvious, and some are very hidden. Very original, very fun, and very worth the trip. And I will be buying the DVD.
I am very anxious to hear what others think.

I may be going to see this tomorrow (not my idea) so hopefully I like it. I'll report back if I go and see it.

Ditto on that. I was apprehensive to see it when I saw the trailer but the story was rich and very well put together. I would say that Gilliam's essense shown through here quite well with the charachters and dialougue. Bits of Monty Pythonisms seasoned throughout. I was really glad I went to see it. Akin to the quality of the first Harry Potter film in visuals and content.

I forgot to report back in. I went and saw it Saturday night. I hadn't even heard about it nor seen any reviews for it but I thoroughly enjoyed it. The story was quite good and I'd definitely see it again.
I don't want to say too much lest I give away the story.

It was getting hammered in the reviews from what I understand. I'm not that familar with the Brothers Grimm but I'd like to see this.
I was just reading EW's interview with Gilliam last night . . . he's a real piece of work. He trashed War of the Worlds and Charlie and the Chocolate Factory (the former of which I know sucks, the latter of which I assume is not good but anyway) and then EW turned around and graded Brothers Grimm in the C range. Funny, considering EW gave those other two movies As. lol

Yeah EW also gave Dukes of Hazzard a B+ so that should tell you all you need to know about their taste in movies. :cross-eye
I'm looking forward to seeing this but I'll admit, aside from 12 Monkeys (which I think is a brilliant film) and The Fisher King I'm not a huge fan of Gilliam's work. I do however think The Brothers Grimm looks quite good and that Gilliam is the perfect director to helm this sort of project.

Their grades have given me reason to criticize in the past . . . please don't get me going again. :crazed:

Being a Gilliam fan I think I had too high of hopes for this one. It wasn't anything great to me, but was still very good. Worth seeing for sure.

The CGI in both films was extremely terrible, so yes, you're correct. :D (For the record, I'm a big HP fan, but the first and second film are lacking comparatively to the third one and undoubtedly the fourth.)
I saw this last week, and I didn't much care for it. Many of the parts were good, but some of it was just plain dumb - need I remind you all of the Gingerbread Man sequence? :dead:
