I've seen this on other forums and I thought it might work here. What if there was an "Anonymous" thread area, similar to the Rancor Pit, except that all posts would show up without a username attached. The point of such an area would allow for users to post problems, questions, concerns, and opinions freely without fear of retribution, being made fun of, or anything else you might think of.

The standard forum rules would apply, first and foremost being "no personal attacks." For instance, something like "stillakid sucks because..." wouldn't be allowed, but "stillakid's opinion on [A] sucks because [B].... " might be so long as the discussion revolved around the issue and not on stillakid himself.

The Rancor Pit already handles many of these topics, but there may be other issues that users may want to bring up but don't out of fear of being chastised for one reason or another.

So, if it anonymous, why wouldnt personal attacks be allowed? We would never know who made them correct?

NOthing personal, but I think it wont fly.

We probably would know who made them, KH. The IP address would still be logged when they post.

I realize that it is a sticky situation potentially, but the point of the forums area is so that people could post questions or topics that they otherwise might find embarrassing to put their names to. It isn't there to lambast anyone, it's there as a service so that people are more free to express ideas or issues that might invite retribution, scorn, or embarrassment.

does this actually work on other sites...i guess that it would be cool to a point, but if it were just going to take the place of the pit, then i'm struggling to find a point...no offense, or anything...

This doesn't just take the place of the pit. What it does is give forum space to questions or issues that could be construed as embarrassing to bring up. From the truly eye-popping, like, "I like to wear high heels when nobody is watching" to the easier to field "I have a dumb Star Wars question to ask, but I don't want anybody to know how dumb I am for asking it." Stuff like that. Some topics may drift into the arena of the Pit while others may be honest to goodness Star Wars issues.

This could be a good way around all those "I have a friend . . . " questions. :D

okay, as i'm pretty sure your real names aren't stillakid, caesar, kidhuman, james boba fettfield, and darth grifter, isn't this quite anonymous enough? and you would still get made fun of, just without your username shown, so i don't see the benefit.

what other sites have this option?

Darth Grifter

ok...that seems like a good outlet then...i've heard a friend want to ask questions but get embarassed about it...yeah, that's it...

despite having a screen name, darthvyn, there are some people on here who know my real name and have met me...good point though...:)

Quite a few, actually. And no, I don't think that even having a screenname is anonymous enough for some people in some circumstances.

Why the opposition to the idea? I don't get it.

It is a good idea, but I guarantee that the topics chosen, style of writing, prose, vocabulary, logic flow, length etc. can take on a life of its own without upfront labels. The labels of style will always be there. I can pick out Stillakid's and vulcantouch's posts if I didn't look at the screen and had someone read them to me.

How about a forum where we can display our toy collections?

JediTricks

We have a photo gallery section for pictures, and you could start a thread in Gen Disc if it's a discussion or Other if it's just showing the pictures. There's also the Customs/Dioramas section for those sorts of topics. I'm not shooting down the idea, just wondering what that specific forum would have going on.

Hey there

I was a member of SSG a few years back and I was an avid visitor of the Just Found UK section. I can't seem to find it now, maybe its been taken off! Please can we have a UK section so we can discuss our current finds!!!

Any UK members out there agree?!:D

I heard from a friend of mine in London yesterday that they had all 6 films playing at local theaters! Lucky blokes. Why couldn't they do that here?

Yep they sure did, saw it on the news, the people coming out of there looked half dead.

The thing is, the showed the original trilogy before the episodes 1-3, probably to coincide with the premiere.

Cool! But seeing them in that order is the ONLY way they can really be seen anyway, so it all worked out. :) My buddy in London HATES Star Wars, but called yesterday to get my thoughts on this last episode. I suppose I'll have ring 'im up on the phone sometime today. :)

It was merged with "Just Found Non-USA".

Bilbo_Fett
05-21-2005, 06:14 AM
Yeah I had a look at that but all I could find was stuff to do with Canada.

JediTricks
05-22-2005, 05:41 PM
That's because only Canadian users seem to actively use the Just Found system, when we had Canada separated from UK and USA the UK section hadn't had a post in over a month and the Canada section had 3 active threads every day. This is why they all got merged into "Non-USA", not enough sustained interest to warrant an entire section.

Since we have a section called "Classic Trilogy" that pretty much lumps all the OT together, why isn't there now a "Prequal Trilogy" section that does the say for the PT. Or, split up the "Classic Trilogy" section into each individual section for EP. IV-VI. I think it's only fair. Plus, I'm a stickler for uniformity.

JediTricks
05-29-2005, 07:51 PM
With the passage of time there will be, but for now, Ep 3 is so much newer than the others that it's outweighed.

How about adding a "Dear George" forum, similar to the "Dear Hasbro" section? After all, Mr. Lucas is the man who spawned what has become an obsession to most of us. It would be fun — and fitting — to have a forum where we could write open letters to him.
