LOL! Yeah that's a big "I" for me in favor of getting rid of this now very annoying ad! I'm finally sick of it as well, and went to post my own new thread about this problem, and low and behold there are other peolpe thinking the same thing!
To who ever created this: It's a cool banner and well designed and I'm sure your really proud of it, but It's run it's course! Just have a simple non-drop down banner for those that might be interested in it! Obviously someone paid money to SSG to put it on the site, and they deserve to get their full monies worth, but as I said just change it to a single banner! It has become really annoying and made it difficult to browse some portions of SSG; and if I had any interest in this game, it is now gone, so your banner might be doing you more of a diservice than actually garnering potential customers!

I definitely agree. It's not only annoying but I could swear it retards browser performance. For me it takes longer to load SSG pages since the ad has went up. I've gone as far as disabling ActiveX scripts to try to avoid the damn thing. Props to the croutons who devised the devious thing though. If they wanted to make the world stop to notice their ad, mission accomplished.

Hmmm. . I haven't encountered this, I'm assuming its because I use Mozilla Firefox as my browser which eliminates the problem altogether unlike Internet Explorer. Sounds annoying though. :D

For those having trouble, what are your exact browsers (brand, version #) and what are your dial-up speeds?

Also, any troubles with it automatically covering up the forums, please supply screencaps if you can.

Tell me how to do that and I will!

It's not automatic, but the link that makes it drop down is right in the way of your natural hand/mouse movements from the rollerbar to content on SSG. So everytime you bring your mouse from the side rollbar and try to click on a thread in a forum let's say, the thing drops down and then you have to stop what you were trying to do and go to the top of the page until the drop down goes away, and then you can continue browsing! Maybe if they just put it on the left side of the banner it wouldn't happen so much! But it has gotten to be REALLY annoying!
Also, I'm in the middle of moving so I've had to come here to my local library and use the computers here! I have Mozilla on my computer, but they use IE(that came with XP) here! They use roadrunner/TW Cable here as well!

Oh also, I doubt it is this banner ad, but I just noticed the delay somone else mentioned in browsing the site today(now). The pages aren't comming up right away! You click on a link and the page loads fully, but nothing will appear, and then all of a sudden it pops into view! Actually, the banner ads, and the heading of the site(like Welcome, The 'Xir) all appear but no content below that shows right after loading, it takes a couple of seconds and you almost have to force it into comming into view(I know that might sound weird, but it's kinda true) Usually if I right click over the blank part of the page, content will then appear!

I'm running IE 5.5 using a 56K dial-up (usually 39 Kbps). I figured it was a combination of poor performance on my end coupled with this site's increased traffic due to the movie/toy release, but I've had problems with page loading even during low-use periods such as early in the AM. I finally just disabled active scripting (both ActiveX & Java) so the ad doesn't load at all. I've noticed faster page loads since doing this.

I use IE at home and the ad is a problem. At work I use Firefox and have only seen it a handful of times.

The ad is kind of a pain...For those having trouble, what are your exact browsers (brand, version #) and what are your dial-up speeds? Also, any troubles with it automatically covering up the forums, please supply screencaps if you can.The ad shows itself in all three (I.E., Netscape, Firefox) browsers, but it only loads once (cookies?) and then never loads again for Netscape and Firefox.

The ad is fully animated ONLY in I.E. -- not the other browsers. (If you're using a computer with a slowish connection it'll slow things down, or if you've got an older CPU it can be a bit of a resource hog.)

The dropdown or "Expand" button only appears in Internet Explorer. If you happen to mouse over it by mistake, then the ad triples in size and covers up a bunch of screen.

When I was updating the Database the other day I moused over that ad probably 5000 times... it drove me nuts.

That's the way it's supposed to work, you're only supposed to see it once in a while, like every few hours or more.

I have a screencap of it doing it by itself, I'll put it up later as I'm still stuck on Dial-Up.

I'm not seeing that dropdown thing anymore... but I'm on a Mac right now. Did you change it?

The 'Xir

I doubt it, seeing as I'm at my parents house using their computer and the ad is on every page 24/7! They also have IE though.
However, the fact remains though that, if an ad is causing so much problems that it gets a thread devoted to it about how annoying it is, then something should be done! No ones saying this company shouldn't be able to advertise on this site, just change the format of the ad, or take it off until it can be changed and then fufill what ever contractual obligations down the road!

Thank Toys"R"Us. :)

(That's the smartest thing I've ever seen TRU do BTW... putting an ad on a fan site like this.)

Just a couple banner ads of note here at SSG:

Star war bounty hunter
Get a free Star Wars Knights Old. Offer Expires Today!
(goooooogle, Target.com ads)

What is Star war? Why only the Knights Old.? No Knights young?

Battle of the Heros ad. And what is/are heros (it'd be pronounced heer-oss or hair-ose that way)?

Spell check, advertising wizards... ;)
