I'm one to like the electronic lightning-strike quick-change Darth Sidious/Chancellor figure.
You guys?
Nice touch adding a change of hands so he can slash with his lightsaber!

I knew that figure had to come with Force lightning after seeing the pix at GH.com. But, I wonder, do the holes have any sort of plugs, so that when you don't want the bolts in there and he's just holding his lightsaber (which should glow too, right?) he's not shining lights out of his sleeves like some weird usher at a movie theater?

Looks good. On the one pic at GH, the mechanism looks like a spring loaded switch, so hopefully the "quick change" lives up to the name. I cant wait to push it over and over really fast and have "Exorcist Head Spinning Palpatine"!

I didn't think the figure looked all that bad when seeing it the first time. I don't think there will be "plugs" to cover the holes as they would be easily lost or swallowed by a child. And, collectors or not, they have to meet the safety specs for children. I'm thinking there may be a second button to make the light for his lightsaber light up?

Yeah I like these sets, Palpy/Chancellor and Anakin/Vader. These are 2 deluxes Iwill get.

Dunno . . . it looks better, but it still doesn't look really great. His head sculpt looks really weird as the Sith, and his hood looks a little too big. Oh well, we're getting four other Palpatines (three basic and one vs. Mace) this year so it's no biggie.

I've always stayed away from the deluxe figures.. it seems you pay twice as much for half the quality (AOTC Mace anyone?). This figure looks pretty good and it's probably the only one of Palp/Sids in this outfit that we'll get so I might pick this one up.
(AOTC Mace anyone?)
*slowly raises hand* uhhh...actually yes, me. I think thats the best AOTC Mace we got. Certainly better than the basic figure for the line with its ridiculous slashing attack arm (for me the very worst example of how a play feature compromises a sculpt), lack of articulation in the other arm and that facial expression (which, although well executed, was never seen in the film). And its also preferable to the robed version with the giant hole through his chest for the lightsaber manipulation gimmick. And compare it with the deluxe Jango with oversized jetpack, flipping Obi and Tyrannus, Anakin with minced Geonosian. Deluxe Mace, of all of those, has the best sculpt, a fairly fixed but decent pose and also the least intrusive gimmick.

I like both the Palpatine and Vader sets. Hell, I even like the Grievous deluxe fig, even though it is a cheap gimmick. But the only thing I don't like about them is that the Anakin figure doesn't come with an interchangeable "charred" head.
But the deluxe Palpy looks better than the basic figure.
