Why can't I save JPGs?

I had to re-load or re-start or whatever my computer this summer a few times, and now when I want to save something on Paint, I can't save as JPGs. The only way I can do it is if I add .jpg after the file name, but it's still just as large as a BMP, and then I can't upload any new avatars. Help!

My MS Paint program could never save JPGs, so I'm surprised to hear yours could. Check out the program I mentioned in this thread:

BTW, after I loaded the program, I checked on MS Paint, lo and behold I can now save JPGs on it. I think it works when you open a JPG file on it. Maybe that's how I was able to do it in the first place?
