View Full Version : No More Light or Dark Destinys?

Just noticed that everyone's defaulted into Light Siders with the forums upgrade. And there is no longer an actual choice between Light and Dark available in our User CP. Any chance that the Dark Side choice will be restored soon? For those of us that can't stand being a wishy-washy Jedi. :D

I never realised that the light side version of the "Emperor" was "Jedi Council Member" :). I think Emperor sounds alot better than Council member, maybe when i reach 5000 posts I will venture towards the dark side (if it comes back that is).

Yeah, we found that out when I hit 5,000 a while back. I agree, the "JCM" name is a snore. Especially when Emperor is so much cozier. It just sounds so nice and relaxing. You can just kick back dressed in your sith boxer shorts, dark sider's robe and a pair of slippers. And a nice cup of tea with biscuits and orange marmalade. Jedi's are just to uptight to relax and enjoy the finer things in life. :)

The new version of the forums does not support multiple ranks so we took it out now as it interfered with other things.

Well this is just a bummer........
I was really looking forward to jumping from "Sith Lord" to "Dark Master", or whatever comes next.......
Damn...stuck as a useless Jedi Master

I'm keeping my avatar, even though I'm now a Jedi (blah!) knight. I'll just be a knight is shiny white armor.

Why is it that every upgrade to the forums causes so many problems all over the place. it's like buying microsoft software and finding it's held together with holes. Seriously i don't understand how an upgrade can downgrade your features and performance. I mean either you have all the bells and whistles and keep them running or you just take it all away and save everyone the hassle of coming in and suddenly finding things not working. All this to-ing and fro-ing isn't good.
Every upgrade to the forums since you changed ouver to this software has meant losing one or the other feature. pretty soon all we'll have is a plain text submit form and no formatting and no options at all. We're going backwards in time to the old bulletin boards. Unpleasant.

In an effort to alleviate the many problems, all forumites shall now use parcel post to deliver Post-It Notes to a central bulletin board in Geneva, Switzerland.
:D
If there are no more light or dark destinys, I would recommend re-naming the current ones to something a little different.
Just a suggestion.

OR, how about a similar set up to figures, where you can make up your own title?

They are called "hacks" which are 3rd party additions. Each time there is an upgrade to the overall system, some "hacks" are not compatible with the upgrade. It takes A LOT of work to re-hack everything in, if it even works with the upgrade. It's a chance I don't want to take. Hacks or crash the forums? However, I do add the simple "hacks" like the Post #, Quick Reply, etc. We are waiting for the major upgrade to the forums that has a lot of the popular "hacks" already installed by default. Another thing is the next upgrade will be the major one and NONE of the current "hacks" work with it since it is a totally re-written forums system. Once the major upgrade is done, I can start adding more "hacks" back in as they will be re-written for the new forums version. I apologize but I think this is the best decision in the long run.

Sorry if it sounded like a grouch, I forgot to put a smiley on the end of my post. Well okay, it was partly a grouch - partly....
I just didn't understand that was all. Thanks for the clarification. Although I still think it odd to have these system software upgrades that dissallow the 'hacks', seems like a weird way to do things.
Sure it's better to have a safe system than one that suffers from ISE type problems all the time. I'm not going to argue there.
Still, at least now you've explained it clearly this should answer any similar queries or 'grouches' :)

it's okay that the ranksystem is changed, but it actually interferes with new member registration... a friend of mine recently joined, and on the registration page, it still has the "ranksystem... choose your destiny" dialogue box, but no pull down menu. i told him to leave it blank, as it doesn't exist anymore, but when he submitted the registration, it said "you did not choose a rank..."
how would he know what to put there if i wasn't there to tell him that it said "2" next to my rank in my user cp, so i told him to just put "1" or "2" in the box. i say, get rid of the ranksystem box in the user cp and registration pages for now, before it causes a lot of confusion...

If the system can only handle one rank, then why does it still say Moderator/Super Mod for the moderators?

darthvyn, I've let Steve know about your post, so we should be seeing this worked on soon. Thanks for letting us know, if not for you, we might never have heard about that.

Moderator, Super Moderator, Admin, and Staff ranks are all part of the system's original rank design so they wouldn't be affected. Moderator and Super Moderator are not the same rank and do not sport the same system abilities which is why they both still exist.

Thanks for at least explaining why our destiny's have been clouded. LOL! I guess I will just continue to train as a Sith Lord in secret until we are at long last revealed once again to the Jedi!

I noticed that the ranks are back to dark side and light side, does that now mean that they will change rank as your posts go up or am I just stuck at Sith Initiate forever?????????????

There's a very large jump between Sith Initiate and the next level up, just remeber to be patient and don't postpad and you'll move up over time. :)
