Steve's FAQs say you need 75 posts to use a custom avatar. I've finally just reached that number, and now it says, in the user CP, I need more than 100. >:( What gives?!

It was raised to 100 with one of the recent updates to the server. Sir Steve must have forgotten to change the info in the FAQ's. It's only 25 more, shouldn't take that long. :)

How does one upload a personal avatar? how will I know when Ive reached the posts needed to do so since that has been removed? anyone? anyone?

the post number is in your profile, you're currently at 63 posts
and if you have 100 posts, go to your user cp and look a bit around (under personal settings I think) and there you can upload a custom avatar

Okay, what are the suggested dimensions for an avatar? Is there a pixel width? All that is suggested is under 7000 bytes. How many pixels is that approx?

It should say on the upload page. But the maximums are 75x75 and 7000 bytes. :)

Actually you need 101 posts. I had 100 and needed one more. It does say more than 100 posts for your own custom Avatar. And I was happy once I made it.:D

I see, I just found out how to get there, and since I'm at 150+ posts now, I will have to see about using a custom Avatar, but in the meantime, I changed to this better looking Stormtrooper helmet!

I wanted to use my real picture as my avatar, but no matter how small I make it, is says its too big. Can anyone help me resize it?

I don't know if this helps, but I downloaded your picture, and resized it, and saved it as a .jpg. See if it works Amy. You had it as a BMP which is larger.

BTW, does anyone know if I was to use my custom avatar, would I have to have it hosted on a website, or could it be something from my picture file on my computer, providing it fit into the 75 x 75 size range?

The other boards I post on, requires that you have your avatar hosted on a website. I currently do not have a website. Thanks!

When you use your own avatar, it's uploaded to the server, so there's no need for it to be hosted.
