Does anyone know when Toy Fair 2003 opens?
I know that Sir Steves Guide won't be covering it this time, but will Star Wars.com still be covering it?

Febuary 16th - 19th. Though Hasbro and McFarlane are not attending, I guess. Hasbro has decided to showcase their stuff online, and possibly have a private show at some point. And McFarlane is going to be pulling out completly, and going to set up a Retailer and Press display at their head office. Best place for Toy Fair news, would be Figures.com. :)

No way!
I thought Toy Fair was huge, why would Hasbro pull out? I always look forward to it every year.

I was reading elsewhere, that Hasbro will be there. But they will not be renting a showroom this year. They will just have a small static display in the main showroom. That's why they have been showing off all their Star Wars stuff on-line.
Toy Fair is out of date with the times. It's really only for retailers and press, and now with the internet and such, there is less of a need for an actual show. Expect over the next few years, other companies will start to pull out also. :)

I have heard mixed things about Hasbro's plans for Toy Fair. Hasbro has a tremendous Showroom 6 blocks from my Apt, but I don't go past there much.
I will find out for sure what they are doing. Also, I have heard they will be shifting Toy Fair from Feb to Oct, when Pre- Toy Fair takes place, but right now that's all rumor, and speculation. I do agree though JJ, Toy Fair is done.

Toy Fair is held in NYC. Most companies, like Playmates, ToyBiz anything of that caliber have showrooms in one of several Toy Buildings located along Broadway between 23rd, and 26th Sts. Hasbro however, has an immense showroom on W23rd, It is really a cool thing to see, even if you just peek in as you walk by. I have had the opportunity to go for several years but, it is getting harder to secure passes without being a buyer.

Hasbro will only have a small amount of 2003 product to show retailers during Toy Fair and no media is allowed in. McFarlane is having a new showroom built and they will have their own "online toy fair".
Hasbro not showing to media is a very bad idea....

I don't see it as a bad idea. They already showed on their site, pretty much everything that would have showed up at Toy Fair. Hasbro just wants to control the flow of info, and the pictures. The proffessional photographs that they feature on their site, showcase the figures better then photos taken at Toy Fair most of the time. :)

Stupid question. . . .
You have to be a dealer to go to Toy Fair, or can anybody go?

Dealer, no
Buyer- Yes
Designer-Yes
Generally Press and Industry Folk get to go
You can purchase passes, but it'd not worth the 5 grand or whatever it costs. Even then different showrooms have different passes.

So. . . let me get his right. . .
Chances are I can't go this year, and probably couldn't have gone last year.
Last year they gave attendees a Silver Anniversary Darth Vader.
That would mean last year buyers, designers, press and industry folk recieved a figure that chances are they sold to the collectors and fans who couldn't get it for an insane markup!?!?!?!
I've always been irritated by the fact I never got a Vader, but this makes me even more PO'd. I even wanted to see the Hasbro stuff this year knowing I wasn't getting anything special in return, but I guess that is out of the question. POOP!
