Warstar is off to Montana to go to film school. Good Luck Warstar, we'll miss seeing you, but know we'll still see you on the Forums.

if so, compare&contrast w/hunter-thompsonesque machoman persona i happened to be fronting in the previous tea pix (http://fan.starwars.com/sabretoothcollection/tea.html), & you'll realize you should Be so lucky as to possess my compelling, chameleonic androgyny- you'd be suprised how handy it can be from time to time
that said, which stygian witch do i get to be? is there an edie sedgwick stygian witch? a jackie stygian witch? a parker posey one? and have you seen clockwatchers Yet?? :)
btw, ws' pal was known as "sherwood" here at ssg. and instead of a stygian witch, to me his pics bring to mind paul dooley's assured, superfun portrayal of enabran tain :)
"no wonder the romulans can't conquer the galaxy: no one can stomach their cuisine" -tain (sipping a romulan ale), ds9's "the die is cast" :)

.....Of course not dear, I would take it as a compliment - but if you must be a *specific* witch, you can be the one with the eye.

The old stygian witches were very wise ol wimmin that lived up in teh caves of Ancient Greece, overlooking the Aegean; They shared an eyball for sight and were cannibals. There is a representation of them in Clash of the Titans.

My remarks were based more on the coven-like aspect of the photos and the regularity with which you meet smacks of "when shall we three meet again, in thunder lightning or in rain, when the hurly burly's done; when the battle's lost and won - there to meet MacD2" :D

As far as me being "so lucky as to possess my compelling, chameleonic androgyny" - I think I have done quite well over the years :p but you're right I do not have your propensity for androgeny.

is that they is toooooo steril and clean. the old forums (pick your own carnation, old, older, oldest, don't matter which), had a nice personality to em', they may have had their glitches, but i enjoyed using them more than this new one. a good analogy might be the cluttered, slightly dirty, rough around the edges, mom and pop store vs. the big new shiny, everything perfectly coiffed super mall down the road.

hey! that's jes me. (i'm jes happy to have a contunuing forum on mm's)

jeddah, you will find an amidala avatar on page three of the avatar cherces. click on the use cp button nestled between the log out and the calander button on the upper right of your screen, then click on the edit options button, scroll all the way down to the change avatar button, and then go to page three of the avatars. amidala is on the bottom row.

. . .even though i make up for it & then some w/my excellent Training in other spheres ;) i did see that titan movie waybackwhen, but i still wanna be a specific stygian. hey i know! i'll be a SONTAGIAN (http://images.amazon.com/images/P/0393049280.01.LZZZZZZZ.gif) stygian! it's perfect: she too possesses a formidable, androgynous VersaTility (she's a Real lesbian, not just a Male one like me ;) ), a sharp eye And knows the value of a nice window seat (hers, as you can see, overlooks centpark; i wonder if it's in the tower gsj's grandpappy designed?) :)
gsj: so you look kinda like your faddah; jdah looks kinda like My faddah; if traVolTa were here he'd ask, WHAT'S GOIN ON OVAH HEAH? :p and how come r2 gets all the nice? doncha like My bf tshirt too?? :( :p
report:
b'jr & i went ahuntin, spurred partly by retrieving grif's awings. the good news, grif: it turns out red awing was in a silver-logo box, which has been opened but everything's present, still tied down & in perfect shape, $10.77 incl. tax :) the bad news: the green awing was no longer there :( which of course you can't blame on Me since i launched only 2 days after rec'ving your payment, and it took you Weeks to send me said payment :( anyhoo, after you give me final clearance i'll send off your awing and enclose the change remaining after shipping :) or, you may wish to wait a week (see end of post below :) )
we also found a second silver-logo af awing, also opened but otherwise perfect, $10+tax; anyone wants say so here asap :) also: sealed silver logo xwing, $20; sealed silver snowspeeder ($10 or $25, can't recall offhand), and o-o-p af rancor $7. also, we bagged b'jr a $6 sealed virago model, $6 o-o-p droideka and 2 applause cloud cities (price not sufficiently impressive to warrant citation though :( ).
but the Real newsmaker in this report is r2. i meets up with her at fed spacedock last week to turn over af tie-b and virago to her. but she surprises by havin stuff for me in return! as you can see (http://fan.starwars.com/forumforce/files/aut_4655teamm_6f.jpg), here's what she bagged on her trip to lousyanna:
all 4 mm-sized ep1 snapfast vehicles, $.25 each!
ep1 mm pax 1 & 2, $1 each!
af miniscenes that include sithbike, stap and mini droideka, $2 each!
i turned over all of above to b'jr, who was Glad to get em for such prices :) except for the eka, that is- i kept that for myself, cuz it's cool :) thanx to r2, now i have 4 sizes of this: af, applause, commtech and megaction, each offering their own attractions :) did y'all know that af eka's 3 legs fit perfectly between the triangulated "fork tines" on the top of the aussiebraid holojector? the colors even match nice. try it for yourself :)
demonstrating her commendable attentiveness to our crosstawk here, r2 also took note of jdah's wish for a k3po and remanded one to my custody, $7+tax :):):) (which reminds me to axe jdah if i may open & examine k-3's commpack? :) ) now all we need to do is find jdah an r2q5 before i finish timminator's mixtape & wing this pkg britward (but You, jdah, are not working on Any mixtape, so light that candle already! ;) )
total for r2's stuff was $13.90. meanwhile my total was ~$17, so i ended up giving Her $$ :)
hey r2, didn't we take a pic in which swaffy's music folder's visible? did it come out? canweseecanwesee? :) and hey bc3, did you see the teemto pod swaffy sent me (http://fan.starwars.com/forumforce/files/aut_4656teamm_6f.jpg)? welllll? not too shabby, eh pauly? :)

VT, Sounds like you had a full and successful day of bounty hunting w/ b'jr. I sure wish I could still find AFs (open or sealed box) anywhere here!!! About the trek-con, if you see a decent, unopened playmAFes Ferengi Maurauder, I'd be interested. I'd prefer to pay $10.00 or less (but I'd go to $15.00), before shipping. Any chance to listen to the tape yet?

btw - I will not be able to check my work email for the next 2 weeks, so if you email me, please send to the addy in my SSG profile (jr477aol.com).

Hope everyone is enjoying their summer. It sure has gone by fast!

horrors of horrors :(

when i checked my stash at home, the boxed green a-wing that i had, is no longer there. i had forgotten that i told my wife it would be ok to give that to a friend of mason's for a birthday present some time ago :(

however, i do have two loose green a-wings, unfortunately the pilots are not included nor mon motha ( they were part of a package auction which i had won, which included a lot of things with it). if you would like, i will send you both of those a-wings (with stands), i'll substitute the a-wing pilots with other pilots which i have, and if agreeable to you, as a bonus, i will include a loose but complete dewback battle pack which includes the rare dropped figure of ig-88. let me know if this is ok, and i will ship it off asap.

Thanks, yes I got your email.

I have about 6 R2-A6's (which I myselft bought for $4.00 apiece). I'm all R2-A6'd out at the mo as I decided to build 1:1 scale models.

Having said that, I am still after the R2-D2 with moveable claws/parts and the R5-D4. Altho' I'm on a collecting sabbatical @ the mo', I make an exception to anyone finding these 2 6"ers. :)

Thanks again,

re other arrangements such as green awing: y'all might wanna wait till after convention friday; let's first see what i can find there :) btw gsj, i think i know who that glenn guy is; in fact, he may be selling at the con. feel free to email him, telling him you're from florida but that a denver pal of yours named vulcantouch will be making the rounds friday night, so if he wants feel free to bring whatever you may wish me to inquire about, as well as his aliens & t2 mms & set them aside for vt's inquiry on your behalf :)
swaffy: oh sure i've had Time to listen to tape, but you already know that with me, it's never that simple; i have to wait for the Right time  the fsmmb's timminator also sent me a cdr (as with gsj's, i'm still working on His mixtape  ) so who knows, maybe i'll hear em both back2back :)
r2: if u still have, plz send overxposed swaffolder pic to my "real name" address so i can see just forda heckuvit ;)
report:
today at thrift store: o-o-p (no figs or stand) af slave1 for b'jr, $.80 :) one thing you never find at thrift stores is mms. i guess potential donors figure, "aw heck, these're so cool and small, it's not like i'm gonna free up a lotta space if i throw em out, so i might as well keep em around". i know how they feel :)
has anyone forgotten i've not only sighted a loose af ig88 figure for $1.50, but also the bp which includes it for $5? just checking :)

i have e-mailed glenn and informed him that you would be makin the rounds on friday, and that i would be interested in his alieans and t2 mm's (i would?).

i've never even given those mm's a thought, but as in the case of bab 5, i trust your judgement in these matters without hesitation, so if you score these fer me at a price that sits well with you, i would love to have these (i would?).

actually, i recall reading somewhere thet the mm acp fits like a glove into the af drop ship, and that does interest me!(i love when mm's work with different lines due to the scale of the toys!)

now i'll have to find a drop ship somewhere. (just when you think you're done.............................................. ..........)

last call for wants! b'jr & i are heading to dealer room in less than 5 hours!! then that pal who sold b'jr $170 wortha sw stuff this summer (http://209.197.112.151/thread.html?dom=ss&TID=20&PID=1539&seen=108) is draggin us to the 'bird (http://www.1159.com/bluebirdtheater.htm) for some sick twisted animation fest or some such. but i promise we won't take any finds in with us :p

first of all, that guy i thought was glenn wasn't :p oh well:
sightings:
-$5 minmp af tf droid control ship
-$3 o-o-p dc rep cruiser
-strikeforce k-bop, $15
-playmates insurrection ent-e (w/captain's yacht "mm") in a box that has been opened but otherwise in perfect shape, $35
say so ASAP if you want any of above, i'll try to get back for a mopup run  baggins:
-$6 mint o-o-p dc sith inf -say so here if you want :)
-minmp ferengi strikeforce for swaffy, $8.30 (this dealer charged tax)
from another dealer i negotiated a $30 deal for a dc slave 1 (for b'jr, $5) and b5 mm set #5 (for gsj, $25!) :) in the event gsj doesn't want it for that price (about a third of ebay yields :) ), one of you may take it, otherwise b'jr sez for that price he'll be happy to get a second set :)
from another dealer i negotiated a six-item, $50 deal- price breakdown as follows:
-r2q5 for jdah, $10 (about the cheapest we're likely to find; confirm that this is acceptable) :)
-ree-yees on slightly crimped card for $5 -any mm forum regulars may claim this if they want it; otherwise i'm using it for trade fodder
-mega droideka, $10 -claim if you want, otherwise b'jr'll take it :)
-300fett for b'jr, $13
-alpha/af cloud car and bwing, $12 total (hope you waited like i tolja, gsj :) ); b'jr gets the afs, i get the alphas :)
also for me: an mm-sized, snapfast-type model of the kazon raider, FREE! (traded it for b'jr's spare jedi hair braids :) ) like the maquis of this (which i already have), it's prepainted and differs significantly from the mm, which makes it a worthwhile addition to an stmm collection imo :) but box sez they also made a voyager, so you Punks keep an eye out for a cheap one for me, hear? :)

gsj: all b5mm 1-4 pax were the inexplicable price of $25, so i left em right where they lay  no green awings, so if grif agrees, go ahead & send him your o-o-p green a-wing. then, in return for the $$ he paid for it, i will send you all nine b5mms from pax 1, 2 and 4 (o-o-p); b'jr has graciously agreed to turn over one of each in exchange for the leftover afs i got him friday (above) :) this will yield you all ships from b5 1-5 in one swoop; now, as with the kaztorp/array that eluded your stmm collection til recently, all you'll need is the last pak (#6) :)
b'jr'd actually been loaning me his alpha bwing for the last coupla weeks, so i'd been contemplating its desirableness/lameness quotient for some time. though i too agree the "quisinart cam"'s the focus of its appeal, let's just say i don't expect it'll be seeing much rotation on vt's playlist ;P alpha cc, on other hand, is quite adequate- provided the underside remains out of view, that is. what a bloated, boat-like, unrefined, unintriguing underhull this thing has; i feel like pressing something hot against it to push it in :p

maquis quicksnap model (http://cgi.ebay.com/aw-cgi/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&item=1625755019) in a beat-up box (but undamaged contents), $2 :)

also an o-o-p dc repcruiser in great shape, $2 :)

grif's package got mailed to him today. as of his last communicae, he was a go on my substitution's to cover the green a-wing.

Hi all,

R2 thanks for the privee, I couldn't take advantage and engage him in discussions about R5 as cash is too tight for the next few months. Thanks so much for your help :)X

VT, thanks for taking charge of the cap, and the black astromech. I have no intention of using SWAF-o-post or GSJ-Mail so the shipping costs will be the cheapest - I'm not into throwing my nuggets away either - even if I have just paid £19.99 for a Hellraiser lament configuration box (it is cool tho')..... ;)

Anyway, I'm off to locate the dispatch threads & emails to find out what I'm sending where; yes you'll be pleased to find that I am packing the stuff up today; I don't want to cart that stuff to our new house just to send it on.

indeed jdah, your news Does pleeez :D meanwhile, i'll assume from your cryptic-as-usual reply that:
-you want me to use surface shipping, and;
-you don't want neimodian mm figures, and;
-it's ok w/you if i examine your k3 commpack ;)
r2: yep, i'm afraid i was otherwise engaged yesterday, attending the Headache-Loud wedding reception of some Distant relative i never knew i had; to make matters worse, at the ceremony "endless love" was sung, during which i could feel my blood congeal into sickeningly-sweet syrup :p (do walkman hedphones clash w/formalwear? maybe i should ask the secret service- or agent smith from Matrix ;) ) on the plus side, it was held in a fascinating, VaulTed, modernist pre-cast-concrete worshiphaus embedded w/abstract stained glass strips; also, my unerring fashion instinct correctly predicted that the color d'jour would be VioleT- i'd happened to pick out a purple silk shoit ;) i don't spose hubby could make this thursday? :\
re this thursday: ordinarily it Would be my tea day, but at the moment it's up in the air cuz, once every spring & fall, when the aft temps are Just right, i make an exception to my schedule and do the tea thing at some yet-to-be-determined outdoor venue instead. otherwise, i feel silly & restless up there in that hermetic perch when i could be outside amongst the perfection ;) current forecast is an on-target 75f, but if the day turns out differently (hotter or colder), i can be counted on to stick to my usual :) otherwise, no problemo, i'm sure a convenient time'll fall into our laps, i'm in no hurry if you ain't :)

actually it was the hallmark keepsake. mason showed no interest in either the droid fighter or naboo fighter which came with the set (he does however, love the droid control set, and as such, has entered regular play rotation).

as for his disinterest in the above mentioned ships, i was gonna include em in my package to you vt, as a sort of unannounced special bonus (now since i've announced it, i may have to come up with something else!) :)

my original postin's on the hallmark keepsakes (http://www.sirstevesguide.com/forums/showthread.php?threadid=862)

the droid control ship is a perfect ( and i do mean perfect)mm substitute! and as i said prev. the cool thing about the keepsake, is that it is the ship with all the antennae(as opposed to the non-antennae version which was shown to be the mm one, if it was indeed actually ever made)

the naboo, and droid fighters are unfortunately a tad bit smaller.

the star trek ships are smaller than the mm's, and in my humble op. the only one which is detailed better than the mm's is the defiant.

they were out of the stra trek ornaments when i was there, and only had the store display ones left. if they still have those, i'll see if i can make a deal for ya (doubtful), butcha' never know until ya try!

Thanks VT for another enjoyable time at the Fourth Story and for you patience as we tried to solve the world's problems;)

I added the pics from yesterday to my previous VTeatime page, they're near the bottom. HERE (http://fan.starwars.com/sabretoothcollection/tea.html)

The Applause danglers weren't from SSG, but as part of the registration packet at Alphacon (http://fan.starwars.com/AlphaForce/index.html) and I'd be happy for anyone who wants them to have them. As I said, I got them for "free" and was happy to share my extra:D You can see the Rebel Y-wing dangler in one of the pics at VTeatime. You can see a list of other danglers released at the

Whatcha doin' mister? (http://fan.starwars.com/_ksi0701961589109756/sabretoothcollection/files/tatvt_7aut_4806.jpg)

Still anticipating your comments on the tape.

Jeddah - I recv'd the Paypal. Thanks mucho!

I finally got around to trying out the cd burner and Easy CD Creator software on my system. I wish I'd tried it sooner, so's I coulda made CDs rather than cassettes.

VT - it looks like you prefer a cassette Walkman-type device vs. a Diskman. Is this correct, or is either media equally convenient for you? Also, remember that the last tape was a collection of music that holds significance to Me. I did not select the tracks based on any assumption of what You might like. All the same, I hope You liked at least some of it :(

BTW, IMHO, John Barry deserves recognition as one of the most gifted orchestral (is that the correct term?) composers of this era. And I would not have realized that were it not for your starting me on the path to seeking out and listening to his work.

Hey Jeddski - I know you said you were cassette-challenged, but have you been able to rustle up a player yet to give the tape a lissin'?

I'm itching to make a CD compilation next, so if you'd like one, please lemme know.

Best wishes to all for the safety and health of you and your loved ones....

i recall a sign in a barbershop i used to patronize: "all problems could be solved if only barbers and cabdrivers were put in charge of the world (i.e., those with a rep for havin all the answers & talkin the ears off any captive audience ;) )"
speakin of barbers, it seems "shave & a haircut" would be a good "np" for me right about now (actually, this aft i finally did; it's been about 7 months ;) )
i LURRRRVE how our pix came out, r2; captured the occasion real nice-like :D captions'll be forthcoming next chance i get :)

"Whatcha doin' mister?"
-oh, me & r2're just havin a bit of inside fun: you see, last time & this time, for some reason every pic we took that included your swaffolder failed to come out (overexposed, camjiggle). we concluded your folder must have some kinda mojo in it, so while she shot that pic i was tryin to get a peek at the mojo, since it only seems to manifest itself when the shutter snaps. cool ghost story just in time for halloweenie eh?
i use all 3 formats (cd, lp, cass) as sources, but Listen mainly to mixtapes derived from same, especially when i'm mobile. as i was tellin r2 yesterday, it'd take me forever to switch formats. i've got dozens of walkmans and hundreds of mixtapes; as much as i have invested in cassformat, i've yet to be confronted with a good enough reason to jump ship. but more importantly, to convert to disc would/will be a months-long process, one i can't be bothered with presently. b'jr likes my repertoire and keeps tryina bribe me with a free minidisc deck & blanks if i'll just fill some for him. but i say unto him, "can deees. . . 'minideesk' of yours catch dee sunsets i'll miss if i accept your offer?? NO! such is mango! you Can't Hava Da Mango! (airkiss trailed by insouciant buttslap)" :p
a note about that pictured player: it's a cheapazz craig (found used for $2 the day before) that doesn't even have rewind  but i was using it because it ironcially had more suitable sound for the 70's hits i'm currently playin than the costlier sony i'd been using. not only that, just like the sony it was also that yellow color (vulgar & loud most of the year, but Perfectly fashionable in Fahl, Dahling :) )

"orchestral (is that the correct term?)"
-who knows, but i know what you mean  really diggin jb are ya? what more've you heard of his besides what i sent? r2 likes him too :)

"I did not select the tracks based on any assumption of what You might like"
-smart move ;) cuz unless you're tryin to seduce someone ( ), a mixtape's best aim is the conveyance of personal sensibility, which yields a much richer payoff and, much to my gratitude, was the choice you made

"All the same, I hope You liked at least some of it"
-of course i did; you worry too much ;) happily, the right "Vibe-Time" to listen to yer tape has come around several times, so i've given it a few passes to allow it to soak in. i've got a few prelim reactions, & will probably endeavor to share same in real-time as you did this spring- seems like a good way to prompt the flow :)
meanwhile, did you say both danglers for a betty? or maybe some hallmark trekships or control donut?? SOLD :) ok, i'll reserve em for you; anything else you seek offhand while i'm at it?
duz swaffy wanna dangler? DUZZY SWAFFY WANNA DANGLEE? jump boy, jump for the dangler, good dog ;)

re mixtapes and "now playins", let's hear what you guys think of this analysis:
from what i've discerned of our musical tastes, i'd say gsj's emphasizes passion & renewal of authenticity (punk etc), while swaffy's emphasizes craft (lotta adept guitar-solo noodlins etc).
rather than skill of execution like swaffy, what generally attracts me first & foremost is sensibility (like you couldn't tell that from my reckless peckins ;) "i'm an Idea man, i can't be bothered with Details!" -q, TNG :) ), particularly extremes of conceptual austerity & sumptuous hedonism. on the other hand i do share swaffy's embrace of instrumentals.
and ironically, while it is gsj who's exhilarated by "anarchy", it is I who grooves on a mechanistic, rigorous Architecture in alotta my music (howse, glass etc) :)
meanwhile, jdah just gots no damn taste at all, lissenin to anythin flygirls can grindbump to :p (sowwy, just VenTing plazma cuz jdah apparently Still hasn't launched my Happypackage :( )

unfortunately you np'd me in your closing with the police.

never did like them stuck up uppercrusters much. i recall a thought back from 79' when the police and van halen were both makin' there mark on the scene. on the one side you had all your long hair, harley boot wearen' thugs, stickin' they're pinky's and indexes up in the air screamin' rock and roll, when david and the boys hit the charts. (always annoyed me to no end that we share the same middle and last names) (are you david's brother? i gots all the time) , whilst on the other side of the coin, you had all these upper eastsider, brooks brothers preppy types, tawkin' endlessly about the musical virtuosity of stings fling, and how this was the natural progression of neanderthal punk and proof of the musical superiority of new wave (give me no wave anyday of the week) :p .

meanwhile, vh folk, wouldn't give fans of the pig the time o' day, and vicey vercey....me? i lumped em' both together into the same resounding yeeeecccccchhhhh! ( i was actually at a kinks concert in 79' in portland or. and when they began the opening chords to you really got me, a loud mouthed knucklehead behind actually jumped on his chair and let out a whoop sceam and shouted "yeah! van halen rocks!".......sheeeeesh)

i just used "buy it now" to acquire bab 5 set 6 for $30.00, thus completing my collection of bab 5 micros.

some might say that i paid a tad much for that one set, but when you combine it with the 1st 5 sets bagged fer me by none other than mr. touch himself for $25.00 smackers for the kit-in-kaboodle, i end up paying just about srp for the entire lot.

my thanx, kudos, and extreme appreciation to VT, who by snaggin' me the 1st 5 for that amazin' amount, afforded me the opportunity to be flexible with the amount required to complete the set!

i was unable to git over to hallmark this weekend, so i was not able to pose a wheel-n-deel for the display st set. i will try and stop over there today, before headin' home to the misses an chillin.

should i now start to work on alien and star ship trooper?

...but first a non-re: that still caught my eye today...
--- Jedi Knights Prove to Be 'A Force' To Be Reckon With ---

LONDON - More that 10,000 Brits have decided to "Use the
Force" to pray to their higher power. An e-mail campaign
convinced more than 10,000 fans of the enduring science-
fiction films to list Jedi as their religion on Britain's
2001 census. Apparently that was enough for the Office
for National Statistics (ONS) because the grouping of Jedi
was given its own code and will appear in the 2002 census.
A spokesman for ONS explained that all data is encoded
because a large group of people have entered it on their
forms, but doesn't mean that Jedi has become an official
religion.

now, to the re:'s...

VT - re: "what more've you heard of his besides what i sent?"
--Been d/l'ing via music servers. Other than some miscellaneous tracks (too lazy to type out all the names), the only complete album I was able to glom was 'Across the Sea of Time.'

VT - re: "recognize the droid fighter? it's the one you had etoys send me a year ago "
--It does look snazzy in line w/ such good company in the pic.

VT - re: "re devil's den: rather than playin "kirk vs gorn" w/them knickerbocker bruddahs"
--Kirk vs. Gorn was filmed at Vasquez Rocks - right off of I-5 north of Los Angeles going toward Magic Mountain amusement park - me & a few buds used to spend many a hot afternoon climbing around there in wonderfully altered states, often re-enacting the chases and fighting from that episode.

VT - re: :re jb u might be interested in this"
--Thanks! That will give me a lot more specific names to search for on the ol' music servers.

VT - re: "my np for swaffy: david sanchez, 'los cronopios'"
--Verrrry MilesDavis-y I like it, I like it....

VT - re: "i'd say gsj's emphasizes passion & renewal of authenticity (punk etc), while swaffy's emphasizes craft (lotta adept guitar-solo noodlins etc)."
--That is as good a take on how my musical tastes run as any I've said myself.
(sure would like to hear GSJ's tape now that I've read VT's teaser)

GSJ - re: "i was actually at a kinks concert in 79' in portland or. and when they began the opening chords to you really got me"
--My fave version of 'You Really Got Me' is by 801 (Phil Manzanera, Brian Eno, et al..) Have you heard it?? The whole album '801 Live!' is great. & speaking of punk (as VT was in reference to GSJ's tape), I do believe I included 'Third Uncle' on the mixtape I sent to VT & Jeddah. As mentioned in the liner notes, I thought it, as well as a blistering version of 'Baby's on Fire,' was one of the real precursors to the emerging punk genre. BTW - I am very envious that you got to see the Kinks!!!!

GSJ- re: "a loud mouthed knucklehead behind actually jumped on his chair and let out a whoop sceam and shouted "yeah! van halen rocks!".......sheeeeesh)"
--Well, I can say that Van Halen DID rock, at least IMO, and the 'O' of everyone else at the venues and in the years I saw them. Back in around '79 - '80, VH played my high school quad at lunch hour one afternoon, when they were still basically an unknown garage band ('cept those boys never had to play in no garage - they was from a very nice Pasadena neighborhood). Eddie was sweet on a piece of pie who went to my school, and she talked them into playing. About a year later, I saw them absolutely blow the roof off of a West LA club called the Starwood (run by the nefarious Eddie Nash of 'The Laurel Canyon Murders' fame - which, for you porntrivia buffs, resulted in John Holmes going to, and dying in, jail), right about the time they were signed to their first major recording contract. Eddie (VH, not Nash!) was freakin' thermonuclear that night, and David made Geddy Lee sound like a baritone with his ear-bleedin' hi-pitched screamin'. Ah... good times. The Starwood was on Santa Monica Blvd, but gave the legendary Sunset Strip clubs (Whisky-a-go-go, Rainbow, Roxy) a real run for their money for a few years, favoring up-'n-coming bands to the more established names.

GSJ - re: "vh folk, wouldn't give fans of the pig the time o' day"
--Yeah, sorta, I guess. Early Police (1980'ish) was okay, if nothing else, for crossing over the reggae sound to some folks who still wouldn't know what it was were it not for Stink, et al. I always did find him too pretentious, even back then.

GSJ - re: "gsj's 5 greatest albums of all time"
--PRINCE?!?!?!?!?! This must be some appreciation that comes from you sharing his experience in making music vs. my only listening to/appreciating music. For the life of me, I just cannot understand the appeal - tho' I know it is widespread - of this guy.

GSJ, we GOTS to visit in person some time. I would enjoy the heck outta hearing all about your experiences. Hell, if it weren't for the saved ticket stubs, I wouldn't even remember going to a few of the concerts I went to in the 70's & early 80's. But there were some awesome ones. Breakfast with the Grateful Dead at Glen Helen regional park in San Bernardino - aka 'the us festival' - and yes, I did catch valley fever, The Flaming Groovies at the Whisky, Urgh Wars at the Santa Monica Civic. The Stones at Anahiem Stadium with the Outlaws opening (remember when they'd ALL pick up guitars and stand at the front of the stage and wail for about 15 minutes, then go back to their usual instruments?), Stones Tattoo You tour at the Coliseum with the WORST concert billing in the history of music!!! - Prince and George Thorogood opening. Prince comes out first all cooing and effeminite-like, and after about one song, the 100,000 (yes, 100,000) bikers and other hardrockers start boo'ing & those close enough to the stage are chucking these sorta milk carton-like huge cups of coca-cola at him - he left the stage after playing less than ten minutes. Then Lonesome George came out and just about stole the show from the Stones. By contrast, these same fans were later throwing roses, joints and whole baggies of dope TO - not AT - Mick, Keith, Bill, Ron, and Charlie.

It is about now that I remind our esteemed moderators that I did mention MicroMachine droid fighters up in the 2nd "re:" :D :D

okay, good night.

swafman - Well, I can say that Van Halen DID rock, at least IMO, and the 'O' of everyone else at the venues and in the years I saw them
now who's envious of who?, you apparently grew up in west coast rock central, while my muzacal tastes were being shaped by the nyc scene, yours were being carved outta la bedrock! i ahve to admit, that prolly the main reason why i never jumped on the vh bandwagon (other than hating mr. roth's voice), is that by the time i even knew they existed, they was soooooo popular, and of course being the punk i was, anything mainstream was bad, so in all fairness, i have to plead guilty that i never even gave em a chance. i might have given em a whirl, after they dropped roth, but my dislike for the red rocker ran even deeper. lookin back, given the choice between nyc and la, you guys seemed to be havin' a lot more fun on the left coast! nyc was angry mean drunks and change all around, while you guys were gettin fun drunk and havin a good time!

As for the rest of this music talk, I have little to add really, but I remember back when the Santa Monica Civic was an actual venue of virtue, the last thing I saw there was my sister's high school choir recital, and before that was "taste of LA", not exactly an impressive array of shows, though the choir thing did have a packed house. ;)

back in 79' i wuz drummer fer a band called drowning, we had the monday night slot gig at the mud club. (monday was freebie night, and that's jes what they paid us too) basically we were a thrash band, very loud, very fast, the drums pretty much provided any melody:D , no one knew quite what to make of us, and in a review, someone pegged us as "no wave". i always liked that moniker.

the most notable thang about the band, was that it was fronted by none other than jean-michel basquiat. this was just before he was discuvahed by andy and the rest of the art world. we went to school together at city-as-school in brooklyn. i never understood the art world ferver over him, he was nothin' more than a graffitiist, but hey, as a kid, i didn't get rothko either;) as a side bar (like there's really a topic happening here anyway), back in the spring of 78', when jean's family had kicked him out for the umpteenth time, he basically crashed at my house fer a couple o' weeks (folks were a tad uneasy about it, but being liberal upper west siders, they beared it fer a while), he had left one of his many sketch books filled with his graffiti doodlin' behind. i put it in a closet, and remided him several times that it was at the apartment, and that he should pick it up. well time went on, he never picked it up, and of course i forgot about it. after he had been written up in the new york times magazine section in '81, and became the darlin' of the art world, i realized that the sketch book would prolly be worth something, and went back to my parents house to retrieve it, only to discover that at somepoint when i was away at school, my parents (just as all parents do), cleaned up all elements within my room, and of coursed chucked the "trash". sheesh!

anyway, there's my "before they were stars" story

now where da heck wuz i?

heard from brit cit, and the sst's are mine! :D ;) :) i in turn, am going to wing whatever he wishes from my boxed af dupe collection!

My cd rom in my PC makes the system jerky when running the cd audio control software, and I don't have a lot of albums I like to listen to straight through in track order (only two I can think of are Pink Floyd's Dark Side of the Moon and Beastie Boys' License to Ill), I've only got like 50-60 music CDs total though because I am not a huge music fan these days, thanks to overcommercialization and my impatience with new bands.

If I ever hear from R2, I'll let you know... LMK what you think of these blueprints too.

Yeah, I don't know what the story is with the awful acoustics of the SM civic auditorium, but I remember one time when I was a kid, my dad dragged me to some concert (we only lived a few blocks away, so we walked...) and I asked him why the music sounded best and clearest in the lobby. ;)

Free tickets are no excuse, all my friends used to try to palm free tix from KCRW off on me, like I really wanted to go to some "_____-fest '86" that involved sitting on grass or being packed in like sardines. ;) Which reminds me of my trip to the Stones' "Steel Wheels" tour where some stupid girl was eating peanut shells and drinking airline bottles of whiskey and puked it all up on the back of my leather jacket.

don't quite git your point! all of the elements described above is what makes live muzak soooooooo appealing! the 1st time i ever went to a general admission show was in portland or. in nyc, everything is reserved seating, so you spent your time waiting on line when the tickest went on sale. camp out all night, git up to the winder, buy your seats, then go home, and take a shower to remove the funk and grime. then in two months, go to the venue minutes before the concert was to begin, take your seats, enjoy the show, and that was it. in portland (and seattle as well), it was a completely different deal. get you gen ad. tickets whenever, then the day of the show, go camp out at 4 am, wait all day, until they open the doors 2 hours before show time, dash like hell (inches from gettin trampled by the stampede behind ya!), scramble to the 1st row, and then fling your body across as many seats as you can stretch yourself out over, and then defend those seats from the thousands right behind you who all have the same purpose! somehow the show was always more enjoyable this way, as you certainly felt that you worked hard for those seats, and no matter who the act (my girlfriend back then was a hugh styx fan.....uuuuggghhh, so i even went through the above drill for those losers), you always remebered the show fondly. and of course after the show, trust me, anthrax got's nuthin on the slime. dirt and filth that was growing off your clothes and body, from the all day affair!way way way beyond gross! i remeber in the summer of 79, my girlfriend came to ny and i had gotten tickest to the both the no nukes concert (springsteen, jackson browne, c,s,n, bonnie rait, james taylor, etc.), and the who show (their 1st since the death of moon), her comment after both of these shows was that they were awright, but she felt if you didn't spend the day as described above for a gen adm. show, well.....it just didn't feel like rock and roll!

Thanks R2! I await VT's judgement on them...

I mean that because the computer is processing the sound file instead of playing it raw, the rest of the system pauses for like 1/3rd of a second every few moments. I don't want to bring yet another CD player into my room, I've got half a dozen already. Besides, I'm not music's biggest fan. As for the Wave, if I ever turn on a radio again, I'll be sure to AVOID THAT STATION LIKE THE PLAGUE! If that station were any more vanilla, I'd be an albino. Between the Wave, the commercials, and Star 98.6 ("the normal channel"), I can't listen to radio for more than a few minutes. When I worked at a job-type job, we had STAR on all day, I could set my watch by their schedule of the same music day in and day out, and when I moved to Arizona for a little while, that job had the Phoenix STAR on and it was the same music!!!!!!!

I actually don't love music in concert either, I prefer the polish you get with studio-recorded music. There is something to be said for certain types of off-the-cuff natural music when it's live, but in general, I don't do lots of concerts.

Yes, KCRW was the Santa Monica College (no "community" in the name, even they they are a community college) public radio station, and those are some types of free tix they gave away when I was a youthful type, though there were lots of free reggae tix too (my dad even won a djembe drum from them back when our phones were the last on the block with a DIAL).

One thing that's good about leather, it didn't let the puke seep into my clothes. It would have been a LOT worse if she had puked on my back while I wasn't wearing that jacket. :p

GSJ, my last CD of License to Ill was worn out by my cd-walkman that I took to work every morning at 8am, so I know EXACTLY what you're talking about, "Fight for your Right (to party)" followed directly by "No Sleep Till Brooklyn" gets you up and running better than a coffee enema... perhaps I've said too much. ;) KIDDING!

Wow, the Kingdome sounds like one of the worst venues in the world! I've never understood the fascination with the Greek Theater a few blocks up the street from me because the dirt absorbs a ton of the sound, but it sounds like the Kingdome seems 10 times worse since you're getting too MUCH noise instead of too little. It's probably good that it's gone.

I think the thing about '80s music that made it so much more appealing to go to live shows was that the music was so much more about the rock atmosphere than actual music. I still pitty anybody who went to a Styxx concert though. ;)

three freakin' times

the only amusing moment from any of those shows that i recall, was during some song (yeah, like i'm to even know what song.....we are tawkin styx here:rolleyes: ) they dropped thousands of pig pong balls from the ceiling onto the crowd, and of course everyone close enough to the stage, began hurling these ping pong balls back up at the band. well after the umpteenth ping pong ball bounced off the fret of one of the guitarist instrument (as i recall, i thinl his name was jt  , or something like that!), he stopped playing in a rage, and started screaming profanities down at us in the 1st row. of course all this did was insure that we would throw more ping pong balls with renewed gusto:p , and he would keep screamin' at us to stop! (vicious cycle), this went on for some time, until all the ping pong balls were exhausted. as i recall, in retaliation, the band did not come out for an encore that night (thank gawd!).:)

JT - re: "I've never understood the fascination with the Greek Theater a few blocks up the street from me because the dirt absorbs a ton of the sound.."
-- I always thought the "feel" of the Greek was sorta like the H-wood Bowl, just in how it was setup at the entry area, and sorta-kinda-if-you-squint, how the seating is setup. And you could equally easily scam a free concert from either, just by hanging out on the hills around their stages. Speaking of TD, they have a live album recorded at the Greek. I had a buddy who lived around the city for a lot longer than I, and he used to climb trees right at the edge of the Greek and sit in them to hear the shows. In fact, there was a whole culture of 'tree people' who did this regularly.

GSJ - re: TD "both shows were some of the sleepiest moments i can recall in my live muzak experience. very soporific."
-- I'd be dishonest if I didn't admit to being underwhelmed at the lack of stage presence during the TD show at the Civic. It was basically three guys sitting at three consoles that looked sorta like a cross between Scotty's work area in Star Trek TOS and what old-time telephone switchboard operators used to work at, with lots o' blinking lights. Remember this was before the advent of the PC, not even the tandy with 64kb ram, no hard drive and only an external floppy drive. I think TD's entire "stage show" consisted of draping some spider-webby-looking fabric from the corners of their consoles up to the light racks above the stage, and a feeble attempt at a laser flashing to the music.
But having said all that, I still enjoyed the shows due to the tons of hours spent meditating (& medicating??), listening to them at home. Much like J.-M. Jarre, if you listened closely enough there was some very cool stuff going on in and around the monotonous foreground of their music (IMO).

jt: "I await VT's judgement on them"
-i've gone thru about 2/3s of them so far. though a key is included, what i find most rewarding about them is how their broad landscapes of detail oscillate in the mind's eye between literal representations of vast technological habitats, and a futuristic take on islamic mosaic & labyrinth patterns (meant to depict the infinite) one gets pleasurably lost in, giving rise to a heady, utopian abstraction similar to the vibe occasionally given off by the first trek movie :) upon closer examiniation, one can see a number of redundancies, "cheats" and random (albeit usually symmetrical) element placements, the resorting to all of which i suposse was inevitable unless they'd allowed themselves 30 years to complete these things :) three interesting revelations:
-who knew main shuttlebay was That big??
-according to the External plan, it turns out those big, blue-lit windows behind main shuttlebay are the roof of an Arboretum; surprisingly (and disappointingly), i haven't been able to find acknowledgment of this in the Internal deck configurations :(
whose perverse notion was it to put troi & riker's quarters right next to each other?? :o

"When I worked at a job-type job"
-as opposed to what you do Now, which IS? :)

"I'll be sure to AVOID THAT STATION LIKE THE PLAGUE"
-hmm, maybe kwve's changed some since i sampled em while staying in LA for a coupla weeks during the 84 olympics :( oh well, cool streaming audio's available at my local kuvo.org, two highlights of which are their "brazilian fantasy" show from 6-8 pm sundays and "so what" acid jazz show from midnight-3am friday nights (all mountain times) :) other than kuvo in cold cloudy weather, & our local classical station on snowy mormings, i too have sworn off radio :p

re: "happen to know if Sorcerer's anythin like that?"
-- To the extent that you can call ANY of TD's albums different from one another, I think Thief was a bit edgier (as well as being from a film I thought was really good), and a better product.
But my favorite TD album, hands down, is Force Majeure.

JT - re: "they recently mowed down a whole bunch of [trees] right around there"
-- That sux. I thought you said you lived up around Camino Palmero, but recently you said you lived down the street from the Greek. So, are you around Franklin/Los Feliz/Fern Dell, or are you back towards Franklin/LaBrea? FYI, my mom lives up N. Beachwood. Sounds like you grew up (arguably) in the area. Did you go high school in h-wood or StaMonica? If so, would you be willing to say what year you gradjeeated? Just trying to see if we may have unknowingly crossed paths at some time.

VT, I knew that the main shuttlebay was that big, the episode with Kelsey Grammer as captain of the Bozeman, the ship that smashed into the Ent-D over and over ("Cause and Effect", season 5) showed the main shuttlebay opened the only time on the show, and there were several type-7 shuttlecraft being blown out it, they looked tiny.

As for those blue windows at the rear of the saucer section, I can't remember any other blueprints that even tried to give them name, I just checked the ST:TNG Technical Manual and they didn't list the arboretum at all, so I suppose it COULD be there (though I don't buy it personally). Still, it seems like those windows were added simply as decoration. ;) I have a feeling it was Riker's idea to put those 2 quarters together. :D

I really felt frustrated at missing so many B5 sets when I had the chance to get them that I totally put them out of my mind. I never had enough $$$ to pick them up on the aftermarket, so it became something I switched off.

Swaffy, I live in Los Feliz, between Franklin and the Greek. Strangely, I don't even know where "Camino Palmero" is... I grew up all over Los Angeles, from West LA to the northeast valley to a block east of LAX (man, was that a loud area, right under the main flight path) to Santa Monica. My mom used to live on Beachwood as a teenager, now she lives on Cheremoya. I did half a year at University High School in West LA, then took the CHSPE (the state version of the GED) and split, never graduated; my grad year would have been '93 though... I think (it's been a while ;)).
